Job summary

Responsibilities

  • Collect blood samples and body fluids for testing, including blood cultures and arterial samples for blood gas analysis.
  • Register specimens and orders in LIS and prepare/label samples for testing.
  • Communicate lab test requests and results to staff, departments, and physicians.
  • Collect urine drug screens requiring chain of custody and breath alcohol when required.
  • Assist with in-services or training, and support administrative duties in the lab.

Job Summary and Qualifications
  • · You will collect blood samples and body fluids from patients for laboratory testing including blood cultures and arterial samples for blood gas analysis.
  • · You will register specimens and orders tests in LIS and prepare/label samples for internal or external testing.
  • · You will communicate lab test requests and results to appropriate staff, departments, and/or physicians.
  • · You will collect and document urine drug screens requiring chain of custody and breath alcohol when required.
  • · You will assist with in-services or training as assigned.
  • · You will assist with administrative duties within the laboratory.
Qualifications
  • · Phlebotomy Certification required.
  • · One year of phlebotomy experience or equivalent phlebotomy training program.
  • · Excellent communication/people skills and problem solving skills.
  • · Computer skills and filing/clerical skills.
  • · High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • · American Red Cross or American Heart Association Basic Life Support Course (BLS or BCLS) and Certification.
  • · Valid driver’s license.
