Job summary

UT Health East Texas is seeking a PRN Phlebotomist in Henderson, TX. The role involves specimen collection including venipuncture and capillary draws, with emphasis on accurate labeling and proper handling within a hospital lab setting.

Qualified candidates will have a high school diploma or equivalent, completion of an accredited phlebotomy/MA program with clinicals or relevant phlebotomy experience, and national certification. Experience in a clinical setting and LIS familiarity are preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Completion of an accredited phlebotomy/MA program with clinicals or phlebotomy experience.
• Nationally recognized phlebotomy certification (NHA CPT, ASCP PBT, AMT RPT, NCCT NCPT, ACA CPT).
• Hospital LIS skills and strong customer service.

Responsibilities

• Performs venipuncture, capillary draws, urine collection, and specimen culture collection.
• Follows specimen handling procedures and maintains accurate labeling.

The Phlebotomist functions as a laboratory professional who performs specimen collection techniques or specimen collection instructions that include; venipuncture, capillary draws, urine collection instruction, and specimen culture collection instruction.

Qualifications

Job Requirements:

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of an accredited phlebotomy/medical assistant program with clinicals or previous phlebotomy experience.
• Certification from nationally recognized agency. Accepted agencies and certifications include, but are not limited to, the following:
• National Heathcareer Association – Certified Phlebotomy Technician: CPT (NHA).
• American Society for Clinical Pathology – Phlebotomy Technician: PBT (ASCP).
• American Medical Technologists – Registered Phlebotomy Technician: RPT (AMT).
• National Center for Competency Testing – National Certified Phlebotomy Technician: NCPT (NCCT).
• American Certification Agency – Certified Phlebotomy Technician: CPT (ACA).
• Hospital Lab information system skills and strong customer service skills.
• Experience working in the clinical setting.

Preferred Job Requirements.

• 5+ years’ experience as a Phlebotomist.
