Job summary

UT Health Tyler is seeking an evening-shift, full-time Phlebotomist in Tyler, TX. The role involves performing venipuncture, capillary draws, urine collection instructions, and specimen culture collection within a busy clinical lab.

Ideal candidates will have a high school diploma, completion of an accredited phlebotomy program with clinicals, and national certification. Preference for those with 5+ years of phlebotomy experience and strong customer service in a clinical setting.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Accredited phlebotomy/medical assistant program with clinicals or phlebotomy experience.
  • Certification from a nationally recognized agency (CPT/NHA, PBT/ASCP, RPT/AMT, NCPT/NCCT, CPT/ACA).
  • Hospital Lab information system skills and strong customer service.
  • Experience in a clinical setting.
  • 5+ years' experience as a Phlebotomist.

Responsibilities

  • Perform specimen collection techniques: venipuncture, capillary draws, and urine collection; provide collection instructions.

Education

The Phlebotomist functions as a laboratory professional who performs specimen collection techniques or specimen collection instructions that include; venipuncture, capillary draws, urine collection instruction, and specimen culture collection instruction.

Qualifications

Job Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of an accredited phlebotomy/medical assistant program with clinicals or previous phlebotomy experience.
  • Certification from a nationally recognized agency. Accepted agencies and certifications include, but are not limited to, the following:
    • National Heathcareer Association - Certified Phlebotomy Technician: CPT (NHA).
    • American Society for Clinical Pathology - Phlebotomy Technician: PBT (ASCP).
    • American Medical Technologists - Registered Phlebotomy Technician: RPT (AMT).
    • National Center for Competency Testing - National Certified Phlebotomy Technician: NCPT (NCCT).
    • American Certification Agency - Certified Phlebotomy Technician: CPT (ACA).
  • Hospital Lab information system skills and strong customer service skills.
  • Experience working in the clinical setting.
Preferred Job Requirements.
  • 5+ years' experience as a Phlebotomist.
