Job summary

HNL Lab Medicine is seeking staff to collect clinical specimens, register patients, and process orders with general supervision. The role includes venipunctures, specimen handling, and occasional waived testing, with travel to sites within 25 miles as needed.

Per diem hours and a flexible schedule are expected, across varied shifts. Applicants should have a high school diploma or GED with 6 months to 2 years related experience; bilingual Spanish could be required depending on location.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED; 6 months to 2 years related experience preferred.
  • Ability to travel to sites within 25 miles as needed for coverage.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification (or ability to obtain).

Responsibilities

  • Performs venipunctures and collects specimens according to proper procedures.
  • Registers patients, requisitions lab orders and verifies billing information.
  • Process, store, and transport specimens per laboratory requirements.
  • Perform waived testing under general supervision and provide customer support.
  • Assist in orientation and training of new staff; participate in continuous improvement.

Work Schedule:Various hours during current PSC Hours Monday - Friday 6am-5pm with a Saturday Rotation 8am-12pm.Collects clinical laboratory specimens and performs tasks associated with patient registration, order entry and specimen processing with general supervision. Performs waived testing with general supervision. Provides logistical support to team members and general assistance to customers.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.Performs venipunctures. Collects other specimens and explains the proper collection procedures for specimens provided by the patient. Clarifies orders and pre-analytical test requirements when appropriate.Performs registration; requisitions lab orders and verifies billing information.Process, store, and transport specimens according to the laboratory requirements.Actively promotes HNL Lab Medicine’s values and exhibits excellent customer relations in anticipating customer needs in all interactions.Maintains up-to-date knowledge of changes in specimen requirements and collection devices.Maintains an adequate inventory of supplies and ensures a meticulous work area.Assists in the orientation, training, and mentoring new staff members.Participates in the Continuous Service Improvement and continuing education programs.Properly records and documents necessary expense reimbursement (Mileage Reimbursement) following established electronic processes.Provides on-call and mobile service as required.Required to travel to sites within 25 miles other than base location as needed for coverage.Per Diem: Per diem work is determined by the departments need and the employee’s availability. Bilingual and able to read, write and speak Spanish proficiently may be required based on service location.Math Ability:Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.Reasoning Ability:Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.Computer Skills:To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Word Processing software.Certificates and Licenses:Must be accessible to appropriate and reliable transportation to perform essential duties and responsibilities. Certification required by the American Heart Association for Basic Life Support to include adult, child and infant.
