Job summary

Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center in Covington, LA, is seeking a part-time Phlebotomy Technician to support our Lab Services team. You will collect specimens, greet patients professionally, and register them for processing with our lab software.

The ideal candidate has a phlebotomy training background, a high school diploma, and at least 2 years in a lab setting. Oncology experience is preferred, and certification is highly valued.

Job Description

THIS IS A PART-TIME POSITION THAT SUPPORTS OUR LAB SERVICES TEAM AT OUR LOCATION IN COVINGTON, LA.

SCOPE: Collect specimens for laboratory analysis, and prepare for processing by the laboratory. Greet and receive all patients in a professional, warm, and efficient manner. Utilizing the laboratory software; register patients into the system for proper specimen processing. Make sure to maximize in-house lab processing.

Essential Functions

• Perform venipuncture on patients in both a timely and professional manner.
• Verify lab orders are available and patients are registered.
• Process specimens for internal and external processing.
• Management of Lab area

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required

Graduate of a phlebotomy training program

Phlebotomy Certification or Laboratory Assistant Certification highly preferred

2 years’ experience in a lab required; oncology experience preferred.
