Are you looking for a fast-paced and family-oriented environment? The Lab and Phlebotomy group is seeking a new Phlebotomist to join their supportive team. Apply today.

Schedule: 2nd night shift, as needed to fill in. The shift times include: 12:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m., 2:00 p.m. - 10:30 p.m., or 10:30 p.m. - 7:00 a.m., including rotating holidays and every 3rd weekends.

Purpose: This position is responsible for accurately performing phlebotomy and specimen collection of inpatients and/or outpatients. Samples collected are used for laboratory tests essential for diagnosis and treatment. The Phlebotomist may also perform computer, courier, and clerical functions vital to laboratory operations, working under the supervision of Medical Technologists.

Responsibilities:

  1. Interact courteously and professionally with all laboratory customers; respond promptly to telephone inquiries.
  2. Follow proper patient identification procedures, procure blood specimens by venipuncture, heel-stick, and fingerstick.
  3. Instruct patients on collection procedures and collect samples other than blood when required.
  4. Demonstrate dependability, reliability, and independent judgment, recognizing priorities and appropriate authority.
  5. Perform specimen collection at off-site locations as needed.
  6. Transport specimens to the appropriate laboratory section following safety procedures.
  7. Adhere to laboratory and hospital policies regarding procedures, quality control, safety, and personnel policies.
  8. Perform clerical duties, accurately enter demographic data, and manage test orders and billing in the information system.
  9. Train and orient new employees, students, and residents as assigned.
  10. Report unusual or problematic incidents to technical staff, supervisors, or pathologists.
  11. Perform arterial puncture following strict collection and post-collection guidelines.
  12. Monitor and maintain supplies, using materials and reagents cost-effectively.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Certification from an accredited Phlebotomy or Medical Assistant program preferred.
  • At least 6 months of phlebotomy experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and laboratory information systems preferred.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Phlebotomy Technician (PBT(ASCP)) or equivalent certification preferred.
  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting (renewal required).
  • Act 33, Act 34, and Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal required.
