Job Description
Phlebotomist II is responsible for accurate collection and handling of patient laboratory specimens for diagnostic testing according to established best practices, in a manner that enhances patient and caregiver engagement.
Essential Functions
- Accurately collect patient specimens for diagnostic testing in a professional medical environment, working as part of a dynamic team across various settings, including hospitals and clinics.
- Perform specimen collection using techniques such as venipuncture, capillary puncture, PIVO, and throat swabs from patients of all acuities, including newborns and ICU patients, adhering to safety and compliance standards.
- Follow personal protective equipment requirements and communicate procedures empathetically to patients and families.
- Participate in growth opportunities such as patient registration, CODE response teams, training as a clinical coach, specimen processing, quality assurance, waived testing, technical writing, downtime planning, and continuous improvement projects.
- Maintain organizational skills, navigate multiple computer systems, work collaboratively, and uphold a clean, safe work environment. Resilience and professionalism in stressful situations are essential.
- Take on-call shifts and participate in holiday rotations as needed.
- Perform advanced collection techniques and troubleshooting, including bilateral nares or non-standard kit collections.

Qualifications
- High School Diploma (Preferred)
- 12 months of phlebotomy experience, training, or certification (Preferred)
Physical Requirements
- Visual and manual dexterity for handling equipment and documentation.
- Ability to lift, transfer, and assist with patient mobility and equipment.
- Ability to walk, stand, and navigate busy environments.
- For roles requiring driving: ability to operate a vehicle safely.
Location:
St James Hospital, Butte, Montana
Work Hours:
40 hours/week, with pay range $18.66 - $25.33 depending on experience.
