Howard Community College is inviting qualified philosophers to join our adjunct faculty pool for PHIL courses such as Introduction to Philosophy, Logic and Ethics. Courses are 3-credit and can be taught in person or online, with about 3 hours of classroom time per week plus time for grading and preparation.
Adjunct faculty will use Canvas for course materials and assessments, participate in required faculty meetings, and contribute to professional development and a diverse academic community

FT/PT: Part Time
Hours per week: 3 hours a week in class (or online) per 3‑credit course plus additional hours for grading and course preparation

This posting is a pool for those interested in teaching philosophy (PHIL) courses at HCC. Courses include Introduction to Philosophy, Introduction to Logic, Introduction to Ethics. The department chair and/or coordinator will review applications when staffing needs arise. The pool will be cleared annually in January, so please re‑apply if interested.
Adjunct faculty may teach 1–3 courses each semester, depending upon enrollment needs, availability, and skill match. Teaching in any mode requires use of the learning management system Canvas as well as participation as needed in course assessments. Adjunct faculty are invited to participate in professional development.
For each assigned course, prepare course materials and Canvas course site as guided by the philosophy instructional team, deliver quality instruction appropriate to mode, meet with students in person or virtually, grade/assess student work promptly, attend required faculty meetings, and complete required training and other employment related requirements.
Master’s degree in philosophy or closely related discipline or significant graduate work toward the degree or significant professional experience as determined by chair/coordinator.
