Job summary

Eastman Chemical Company in Kingsport, TN, is seeking a PhD Polymer Scientist with an experimental focus to join the Technology organization. The role develops innovative and sustainable polymer solutions for new and existing processes and products.

You will collaborate with scientists, engineers and technicians across lab, pilot and commercial scales to meet market needs, publish findings, and contribute to patents and internal research.

Qualifications

• PhD in Chemistry, Polymer Science, or a related field.
• Strong experimental and polymer synthesis experience.
• Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and communicate results.
• Experience with polymer characterization techniques.
• Safe laboratory practices and hazard identification.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with applications R&D, manufacturing, marketing and business partners to provide viable technical solutions.
• Work in a fast-paced team to translate polymer concepts into designs and assess new polymer architectures.
• Develop research plans and experiments to prepare, characterize and evaluate polymers to schedule.
• Elucidate process conditions for scale-up and manufacturing of polymer compositions.
• Anticipate difficulties and develop creative solutions.
• Write patents and technical literature, present findings, and support external research.
• Prepare and present reports to communicate with production, marketing, sales and related functions.
• Lead multidisciplinary teams and supervise technicians on technical projects.
