Job summary

ByteDance Networking is seeking PhD interns to design and optimize high‑performance transport protocols and congestion control for AI/LLM workloads. You will research AI communication frameworks, protocol stacks, and host-network‑application co-design, while tracking academic developments and contributing to publications.

The internship offers hands‑on experience in data‑center networking at scale, with exposure to cutting‑edge networking research and real-world deployment considerations.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a PhD in computer networking or a related technical discipline.
• Experience with TCP and RoCEv2; socket and verbs APIs in network programming.
• Knowledge of data center congestion control algorithms and PCIe/NVLink/UALink concepts.
• Familiar with high-speed network systems including RDMA and AI network optimization.
• Proficiency in C/C++, Python, or Go.
• Some knowledge of GPU architecture.
• Experience with NCCL, MPI and RPC libraries is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design, optimization, implementation and deployment of high‑performance transport protocols for AI/LLM applications.
• Design, optimization, implementation and deployment of congestion control algorithms for AI/LLM applications.
• R&D of high‑performance AI communication framework and network protocol stacks; co-design of host-network-application.
• Survey latest technologies and present insights in academic papers.
