Job summary

TikTok is offering a 12-week PhD internship in the Search team in California. Interns will contribute to search systems spanning retrieval, ranking, and ML signals, with mentorship and hands-on implementation.

Ideal candidates are pursuing a PhD in a technical field and have strong coding and data-structure fundamentals. Interns will work with engineers, data scientists, and product teams, gaining experience on large-scale data, experiments, and production-ready code.

Qualifications

• Strong coding and data-structure fundamentals.
• Good communication and teamwork.
• Experience in NLP, ranking, ads, search or ML.

Responsibilities

• Support design, implementation, testing, and iteration of Search features.
• Work with large-scale data, logs, metrics, or experiments to improve search.
• Collaborate with engineering, product, data science, ML partners to define requirements.
• Write clear code and documentation for workstreams.
• Communicate progress and learnings with mentors and stakeholders.
