Job summary

TikTok USDS Joint Venture LLC in San Jose seeks a Machine Learning Engineer Intern (Recommendations and Search) for Summer 2027. This PhD internship offers hands-on work on building and evaluating ML models for recommendation systems and search ranking.

Qualifications

Pursuing a PhD degree in a technical field (CS/CE/SE or related).
Able to commit to a 12-week internship during Summer 2027.
Strong coding skills and solid understanding of algorithms & data structures.
Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
Experience in recommender systems, online advertising, information retrieval, NLP, ML, or related fields.
Familiar with ML frameworks such as scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch.
Ability to think critically and communicate in a data-driven manner.

Responsibilities

Design, build, train, and evaluate ML models for recommendations or search ranking.
Implement pipelines for feature extraction, model training, evaluation, and deployment.
Process and analyze large-scale user behavior data and logs to build real-time and offline features.
