Formlabs is seeking a PhD Intern in Materials Science for Summer 2027 at our Somerville, MA site. You will work in the lab on materials development, formulating and testing new materials, and collaborating with the Materials team to tackle challenges in 3D printing.
The role emphasizes hands-on lab work, polymer knowledge, CAD familiarity, and basic coding. This paid internship includes on-site meals, social events, and unlimited 3D prints.

Materials development presents one of the greatest opportunities in 3D printing. As a Materials intern, you’ll work side-by-side in the lab with the rest of our Materials team. You’ll get an opportunity to constantly develop, formulate, and test materials that we’ve never printed with before -- and every experiment plays a big role in how we solve new challenges in 3D printing.

Compensation
Interns at Formlabs are paid on a bi-weekly pay schedule. The pay range for this role will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, location and expected impact on the organization. This is a salaried role, so you will always be paid based on the assumed 40 hours per week as a full-time intern. This position does not offer housing or relocation assistance.
The weekly pay range for this role is:
$1,500 - $1,900 USD
