Job summary

UPMC East Outpatient Pharmacy is hiring a full-time Pharmacy Technician. The role supports hospital and clinic patients with retail prescriptions and bedside delivery, with a Monday–Friday daylight schedule.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Completion of an accredited pharmacy technician program.
• Six months of previous pharmacy technician experience or six months as a Pharmacy Assistant within the UPMC Health System.
• Enrollment in an undergraduate pharmacy program and in good standing.

Responsibilities

• Procure and maintain adequate inventory levels on daily basis in applicable areas such as medication stock rooms, automated carousels, and dispensing machines.
• Retrieve medications that have been discontinued and return them to the appropriate pharmacy area.
• Practice proper hand hygiene in the pharmacy and units.
• Distribute medications including cassettes, emergency carts and delivery of controlled substances per policy and regulations.
• Finalize sales using cash register and follow cash handling policies.
• Ensure medications are stored safely following Department of Health, The Joint Commission, and State Board of Pharmacy regulations.
• Assist in training pharmacy personnel and students.
• Comply with HIPAA, OSHA, and PBM contracting requirements such as FWA and CMS.
• Assist in preparation of oral and injectable medications, including IV admixtures and TPN, with proper aseptic technique.
