Job summary

Appalachian Regional Healthcare (ARH) is seeking a Certified Pharmacy Technician to support the pharmacy team in both outpatient and inpatient drug distribution. The role includes sterile product preparation, handling controlled substances, and updating patient profiles under pharmacist supervision.

Responsibilities cover labeling, inventory management, and compounding where required, with a focus on accuracy and compliance.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Six to 12 months of pharmacy experience preferred.
• National Technician Certification.
• Registration with the Board of Pharmacy as a pharmacy technician (Kentucky and West Virginia) or technician trainee (West Virginia only).
• Pharmacy math and computer proficiency exams.
• No history of alcoholism, drug addiction or indiscriminate use of habit forming or dangerous drugs.
• No felony/criminal record.

Responsibilities

• Under supervision, perform duties such as typing letters, memos, reports, forms, requisitions, bills, prescription labels and product labels.
• Perform routine office duties including handling phone calls, messages, mail and office machines.
• Maintain and retrieve departmental files including drug information and inventory records.
• Coordinate workload with scheduled medications to maximize productivity.
• Distribute, bill, and credit items in unit dose drug system and outpatient pharmacy.
• Stock shelves, rotate stock, and track expiration dates to prevent waste.
• Handle nit dose distribution processes including oral doses and injectables, pre-mixed and compounded formulations.
• Complete automated dispensing machine tasks and ensure medications are current and properly labeled.
• Assist in compounding sterile products and maintain crash carts and emergency medications.
