Job summary

Appalachian Regional Healthcare (ARH) seeks a Certified Pharmacy Technician to support the pharmacy through technical duties in outpatient and inpatient drug distribution, sterile product preparation, and drug information tasks. You will assist with controlled substances and tax-free alcohol inventory and support research initiatives.

Responsibilities include managing labels, records, inventory, automated dispensing systems, and collaboration with pharmacists to ensure accurate medication

Qualifications

• Complete Pharmacy math and computer proficiency exams.
• National Technician Certification.
• Registration with the Board of Pharmacy as a pharmacy technician (Kentucky and West Virginia) or technician trainee (West Virginia only).
• Six to 12 months of pharmacy experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Types letters, memos, reports, forms, requisitions, bills, prescription labels and product labels.
• Answers telephone and takes messages; distributes mail; operates office machines.
• Maintains and retrieves departmental files including licenses, drug information requests, prescriptions, profile cards and records of issuance for exempt narcotics, syringes, needles, etc.
• Assesses, organizes, and coordinates workload with scheduled medications to maximize productivity.
• Performs distribution and billing and crediting functions in the unit dose drug system and outpatient pharmacy.
• Maintains inventory by conducting inventories, ordering, receiving goods, and tracking expiration dates.
• Stocks drugs on shelves and rotates stock; maintains monthly expiration date records.
• Operates automated dispensing machine (e.g., Pyxis) and compounding as needed; loads/unloads and generates reports.
• Maintains crash cart and emergency medication supplies.
• Enters medication orders, credits, charges, floor stock usage, and patient demographics.
• Provides current drug references and medication information to pharmacists as necessary.
• Updates patient profiles for pharmacist review.
• Assists in drug-therapy related research and may prepare prescriptions for mailing.
