Job summary

University of Missouri Health Care seeks a sterile compounding Pharmacy Technician to prepare sterile medications and support hospital pharmacy operations. You will work with pharmacists to ensure accurate dispensing, maintain cleanrooms, and manage inventory in a fast-paced hospital setting.

Qualified candidates will have Missouri Pharmacy Technician licensure or be eligible, CPhT certification, and experience with sterile compounding.

Qualifications

  • Must obtain Missouri Board of Pharmacy licensure as Pharmacy Technician.
  • CPhT certification required within one year of hire.
  • Experience with sterile compounding preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare sterile compounded medications per USP 797/800.
  • Perform daily and monthly cleanroom and equipment maintenance per USP 797/800 and department policies.
  • Maintain organized inventory of compounding supplies, medications, and PPE.
  • Accurately calculate and measure medications for prescription orders.
  • Document compounding activities including preparation, dispensing and QA.
  • Train pharmacy technicians and other personnel in sterile compounding areas.

  • Base Pay Range: $22 - $34.74 per hour, based on experience

Detailed Job Description

Prepare sterile compounded medications in compliance with USP 797 and USP 800 guidelines.

Perform daily and monthly cleanroom and equipment maintenance as described in USP 797, USP 800, and department policies and procedures. Maintain organized inventory of compounding supplies, medications, and personal protective equipment.

Accurately calculate and measure medications for prescription orders.

Document compounding activities including product preparation, dispensing, and quality assurance.

Ensure compliance with federal, state and institutional regulations including hazardous medications.

Adhere to safety protocols including personal protective equipment use and handling hazardous medications.

Perform all other duties of a pharmacy technician.

Complete all assigned competencies including but not limited to required media fill and gloved fingertip sampling.

Train pharmacy technicians and other pharmacy personnel in sterile compounding areas.

May complete unit/department-specific duties and expectations as outlined in department documents.

Required Qualifications

Must apply prior to hire for Pharmacy Technician licensure by the Missouri Board of Pharmacy. Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) certification by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) within one (1) year as a condition of continued employment in this job classification.

Preferred Qualifications

One (1) year of college or one (1) year of experience. Experience with sterile compounding technology and automated compounding devices. Two (2) years of healthcare experience. Additional license/certification requirements as determined by the hiring department.
