Job summary

MU Health Care is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to join the Mizzou Pharmacy team in Columbia, MO. You will greet patients, assist in preparing and dispensing medications, and manage inventory while collaborating with pharmacists.

On-the-job training is provided. The role emphasizes empathy, precision, and excellent customer service within a dynamic healthcare environment.

Qualifications

• Must apply prior to hire for Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Intern licensure by the Missouri Board of Pharmacy.
• Experience delivering excellent customer service in a pharmacy or healthcare setting.
• Ability to communicate effectively with patients and care teams.
• Accurate data entry and medication dispensing support under supervision.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, dispense, and distribute medications.
• Communicate with multidisciplinary teams, patients, and pharmacy staff.
• Provide on-the-job training to new personnel and evaluate progress.
• Enter prescription orders into dispensing software and adjudicate insurance claims.
• Label prescriptions per state/federal guidelines and handle POS transactions.
• Offer patient counseling and maintain high standards of patient safety.
• Support department duties as outlined in documents.

Store hours: Monday – Friday 8:30am – 5pm (shift will be within these hours)

Location: 2325 Smiley Lane, Columbia, MO

Department: Pharmacy

Compensation:

• $16.68 - $26.31/hour, based on experience
• CERTIFIED $19.15 - $30.23/hour, based on experience
• Additional $1.25 per hour for Evening shift
• Additional $1.50 per hour for Weekend shift
• Sign-On Bonus: $1,500

DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION

Prepare, dispense, and distribute medications.

Communicate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, patients, and other pharmacy employees.

Provide on-the-job training to new personnel and assist in evaluating the progress of new employees.

Receive prescriptions, complete data entry of prescription orders in the pharmacy dispensing software, and adjudicate third‑party insurance claims.

Prepare and label prescriptions consistent with state and federal labeling guidelines.

Conduct point-of-sale transactions that require proper cash handling, offer patient counseling, and comply with all out-window procedures for patient safety.

Answer telephones and handle calls that do not require the personal attention of a pharmacist.

Deliver quality customer service in all interactions with patients.

May complete unit/department‑specific duties as outlined in department documents.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met with or without reasonable accommodation.
