Job summary

MU Health Care is seeking a sterile compounding pharmacy technician for our hospital pharmacy team at the University Hospital campus. You will assist in preparation and dispensing of medications, support pharmacists, and ensure smooth operations in a fast-paced clinical setting.

You will perform sterile compounding per USP 797/800, help manage inventory, and participate in training of other staff. On-the-job training is provided, and the role offers a night shift schedule with competitive hourly

Qualifications

  • Must be licensed as Pharmacy Technician in Missouri.
  • CPhT certification within one year of hire.
  • Experience with sterile compounding preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare sterile compounded medications per USP 797/800.
  • Maintain cleanroom and equipment per regulations; manage inventory.
  • Accurately calculate and measure medications for prescriptions.
  • Document compounding activities and QA.
  • Ensure compliance with regulations including hazardous medications.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and PPE.
  • Train other staff in sterile compounding.
  • Perform other duties of a pharmacy technician.
  • Complete competencies including media fill and gloved fingertip sampling.
  • May perform department-specific duties.

Job description

Shift: NIGHTS:7 on - 7 off.Rotation begins on Thursday and ends on Wednesday; Thursday - Saturday 8pm -8am; Sunday - Wednesday 10pm -8am.
Department: Pharmacy
Compensation:

  • Base Pay Range: $22 - $34.74 per hour, based on experience

Shift Differentials:

  • Additional $2.00 per hour for NIGHT shift
  • Additional $1.50 per hour for WEEKEND shift
  • Sign-On Bonus:$1,500
ABOUT THE JOB

Join our dynamic MU Hospital Pharmacy team as a sterile compounding pharmacy technician, where your expertise will make a meaningful impact on the health and well‑being of our patients in the hospital. Our University Hospital Pharmacy location is located within the main University Hospital campus and we partner with other healthcare professionals to improve the lives of our patients.

DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION
  • Prepare sterile compounded medications in compliance with USP 797 and USP 800 guidelines.
  • Perform daily and monthly cleanroom and equipment maintenance as described in USP 797, USP 800, and department policies and procedures. Maintain organized inventory of compounding supplies, medications, and personal protective equipment.
  • Accurately calculate and measure medications for prescription orders.
  • Document compounding activities including product preparation, dispensing, and quality assurance.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state and institutional regulations including hazardous medications.
  • Adhere to safety protocols including personal protective equipment use and handling hazardous medications.
  • Perform all other duties of a pharmacy technician.
  • Complete all assigned competencies including but not limited to required media fill and gloved fingertip sampling.
  • Train pharmacy technicians and other pharmacy personnel in sterile compounding areas.
  • May complete unit/department-specific duties and expectations as outlined in department documents.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Must apply prior to hire for Pharmacy Technician licensure by the Missouri Board of Pharmacy. Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) certification by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) within one (1) year as a condition of continued employment in this job classification.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

One (1) year of college or one (1) year of experience. Experience with sterile compounding technology and automated compounding devices. Two (2) years of healthcare experience. Additional license/certification requirements as determined by the hiring department.
