Job Description
  • Coordinates the work activities and training of pharmacy technicians and assists in their performance appraisals. Evaluates and reports new technician performance to the senior clinical pharmacist in a timely manner.
  • Suggests policy and procedure changes to improve workflow.
  • Handles special projects after discussing with the senior clinical pharmacist responsible for the area.
  • Manages staffing issues during unplanned absences. Acts as a go-to person for pharmacy technicians. Participates in peer evaluations and staff assessments.
  • Enters new orders under the supervision of a pharmacist. Processes prescriptions and refills. Organizes cardexes and prints profiles as needed.
  • Prepares labels manually or via computer for oral doses, injectables, and large volume parenterals.
  • Selects and prepares medications for new orders, unit dose carts, and outpatient prescriptions. Prepares cytotoxic agents when necessary.
  • Fills, exchanges, and credits unit-dose carts upon pharmacist authorization. Notifies pharmacists of returned doses and returns stock to inventory.
  • Stocks shelves, notes low stock items, and pre-packs medication as needed. Ensures proper storage and expiration of medications.
  • Maintains the department's appearance. Screens calls and relays messages effectively.
  • Performs job functions with a focus on innovation, service excellence, and teamwork to deliver high-quality care.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • High school diploma or GED required; college coursework preferred.
  • Eligibility for licensure as a Registered Pharmacy Technician in Illinois and certification by PTCB required.
  • Must complete and maintain aseptic technique, cytotoxic handling, and parenteral nutrition certification.
  • One year of hospital pharmacy experience preferred.

Pay Range

$22.25-$36.38 Hourly
