Henry Ford Health is seeking a Part-time Pharmacy Technician to join our infusion pharmacy team in Michigan. You will assist a pharmacist in processing medications requiring special handling, with emphasis on accuracy, safety, and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities include verifying orders, preparing and compounding medications, managing inventory, transporting meds to units, and maintaining records in accordance with protocol and safety standards.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Pharmacy Technician license issued by Michigan required.
  • At least 1 year of experience as Hospital or Retail Pharmacy Technician.
  • Ability to maintain records and perform calculations; aseptic technique in vertical flow hood.

Job Description

Works under the supervision of a pharmacist to process orders for medications that require special handling, preparation and/or accountability. The technician has and maintains expertise and skill in the safe handling and use of medications which require special handling, preparation and/or accountability.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Verify medication orders for accuracy, completeness, and appropriate dosing in accordance with established pharmacy protocols and regulatory standards.
  • Prepare and compound medications using aseptic technique standards, including work within vertical flow hoods and specialized equipment, while maintaining comprehensive records related to medication preparation, inventory, and patient administration.
  • Manage pharmacy inventory by receiving, organizing, stocking, and rotating medications and supplies while monitoring stock levels and communicating reorder needs to the supervising pharmacist.
  • Transport prepared medications and prescriptions to nursing units and other departments in a timely and secure manner while maintaining medication integrity.
  • Adhere to infection control protocols, safety procedures, and regulatory compliance requirements specific to infusion pharmacy operations, and communicate effectively with pharmacy staff and healthcare team members to ensure safe medication delivery.
  • Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting of pharmacy equipment and report any malfunctions to the supervising pharmacist.
Qualifications

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Requires a high school diploma or G.E.D. Requires a valid Pharmacy Technician license from the State of Michigan.
  • Requires at least one year of experience as a Hospital Pharmacy Technician and/or Retail Pharmacy Technician (retail experience applies only to medication history positions.
  • Requires the ability to maintain records and perform calculations. Must have the ability, when applicable, to safely handle and manipulate cytotoxic and other special drugs and incidental equipment used in drug preparation, including the ability to work aseptically in a vertical flow hood environment.
  • Must have the ability to maintain Investigational Drug Research Records and to validate doses ordered using Investigational Drug Protocols.
  • Must have the ability to maintain (lift, carry, stock) pharmacy inventory and deliver prescriptions (transport) to nursing units.
  • Must have the ability to use a computer keyboard and type approximately 25 WPM.
  • Must be able to read, interpret and utilize literature relating to medications that require special handling, preparation or accountability to develop or modify, in consultation with a supervising pharmacist, departmental protocols pertaining to the use of these agents.
