Job summary

PeaceHealth is seeking a Pharmacy Technician - Retail to join our team in a full-time, 1.00 FTE, variable position. Under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist, you will support clerical and technical tasks to help provide pharmaceutical care.

Responsibilities include processing orders, labeling medications, assisting with IVs, stock management, and maintaining accurate records. A Washington-certified technician with strong customer service is required.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma preferred or equivalent.
  • Experience in hospital pharmacy with unit dose, IV admixtures, and pharmacy computer systems; retail experience considered.
  • Demonstrated customer service skills.
  • Upon hire, Certified Pharmacy Technician – Washington.

Responsibilities

  • Enter inpatient orders/prescriptions and prepare labels for pharmacist check.
  • Answer calls within guidelines and direct to appropriate personnel.
  • Inspect medications for outdates in Pyxis stations.
  • Prepare IVs and labeling; label IV products and chemotherapeutic meds as requested.
  • Package drugs into unit dose packaging and maintain records.
  • Reconstitute medications with distilled water as needed.
  • Run fill lists and prepare medications for Pyxis stations.
  • Deliver medications and IVs to patient areas; manage inventory and controlled substances.
  • Enter patient charges and credits.
  • Check in orders, process invoices and backorders; restock medications.
  • Maintain clean and organized work areas and equipment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

PeaceHealth is seeking a Pharmacy Technician - Retail for a Full Time, 1.00 FTE, Variable position. The salary range for this opening is $25.90 – $38.33 per hour. This position is represented by a collective bargaining agreement; there may be multiple openings on this posting.

Job Summary

Under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist, this position performs supportive clerical and technical tasks to assist the pharmacist in providing pharmaceutical care. Accuracy, reliability, and excellent customer service are essential. The technician may also perform receiving and stores clerk functions.

Essential Functions
  • Enter inpatient orders/prescriptions into the computer and prepare labels for medications for pharmacist check.
  • Answer telephones within legal guidelines and direct calls to appropriate personnel.
  • Inspect medications for outdates in patient care area Pyxis stations on a quarterly basis.
  • Prepare IVs, PCAs, epidurals and label all IV products; prepare chemotherapeutic intravenous medications as requested.
  • Package drugs into unit dose packaging and maintain packaging records.
  • Reconstitute medication by adding a specific quantity of distilled water requiring no calculation.
  • Run fill lists and prepare medications for Cubies or Pyxis stations.
  • Deliver medications and IVs to patient care areas; deliver controlled substances, handle physical inventories, and reconcile inventory counts.
  • Enter patient charges and credits.
  • Check in orders, process invoices, credits and backorders; restock medication on shelves as needed and purchase medication from suppliers if necessary.
  • Maintain assigned work areas and equipment in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma Preferred or equivalent.
  • Preferred: Experience in hospital pharmacy utilizing unit dose, IV admixtures, and pharmacy computer systems. Retail pharmacy experience considered.
  • Required: Demonstrated customer service skills.
  • Required: Upon hire, Certified Pharmacy Tech – Washington.
Skills
  • Proficient computer and keyboarding skills, including MS Office applications (Required).
  • Good mathematical and analytical skills (Required).
  • Strong customer service and communication skills (Required).
  • Ability to plan, prioritize, and organize workflow in a dynamic, sometimes chaotic environment (Required).
  • Ability to take suggestions, corrections, and directions from the pharmacists (Required).
Department / Location Specific Notes (WASHINGTON)
  • Graduation from, or completion of, a Pharmacy Commission‑approved technician training program.
  • For initial licensure, proof of passing a board‑approved national standardized Pharmacy Technician Certification exam is required.
Working Conditions
  • Patient handling no greater than 35 lbs. without assistive equipment (NIOSH).
  • Fine motor skills to grasp and control medical equipment and perform precise procedures.
  • Ability to move around area with occasional sitting.
  • Frequent reaching, bending, squatting, kneeling, and grasping.
  • Lifting and carrying: frequently up to 15 lbs., occasionally up to 20 lbs.
  • Push/pull: frequently up to 20 lbs. force, occasionally up to 30 lbs. force.
  • Exposure to biohazard, body fluids, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • Time spent on site in medical/hospital setting.
  • Vision and hearing required within normal limits (glasses, contacts, hearing aids permitted).
  • Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
