Qualifications

  • Requires high school diploma or GED.
  • Oregon Pharmacy Technician license required.
  • Preferred: CPhT, PTCB/NHA, immunization certificate, BLS.
  • Six months retail pharmacy experience preferred.
  • Strong data entry, inventory control, and customer service skills.

Responsibilities

  • Interprets, and accurately data enters prescription information into the pharmacy computer system.
  • Bills third party insurance plans accurately and resolves rejected claims in a timely manner.
  • Provides excellent customer service in person and on the telephone.
  • Assists pharmacist with daily tasks as needed.
  • Maintains and controls inventory within reasonable guidelines.
  • Maintains and cleans equipment, reporting issues to supervisor or Pharmacy Manager.
  • Places daily orders for medications and supplies with wholesalers and vendors.
  • Verifies inventory received against invoices and communicates discrepancies.
  • Stocks shelves and rotates stock as needed.
  • Provides policy/procedure recommendations to Pharmacy Manager or hospital leadership.
  • Maintains flexibility to work at multiple worksites as required.
  • Administers immunizations following laws and policies, with proper documentation and patient education.
  • Supports organizational vision, Lean principles, and a safe environment for all.
  • Maintains confidentiality and ethical conduct in all activities.
  • Delivers timely, efficient, and accurate customer service or patient care.
  • May perform additional duties of similar complexity as required.

Job description

The Retail Pharmacy Technician, under the direct supervision of a pharmacist, assists in providing pharmaceutical care to the patient by preparing, storing, ordering, billing, labeling, and distributing medications in a safe, accurate and timely manner in accordance with St. Charles Health System policies and procedures, and state and federal law. Pharmacy Technicians also perform other technical and clerical duties as necessary for the daily operation of the Pharmacy department. This position does not directly manage any other caregivers.

Location

Pharmacy Technicians may be asked to work at multiple St. Charles Health System worksites at the request of leadership to fulfill short term, immediate staffing needs.

Essential Functions And Duties
  • Interprets, and accurately data enters prescription information into the pharmacy computer system.
  • Bills third party insurance plans accurately. Resolves rejected claims in a timely manner.
  • Provides excellent customer service in person and on the telephone.
  • Assists pharmacist in various needed tasks whenever necessary on a daily basis.
  • Maintains and controls inventory within reasonable guidelines.
  • Maintains and cleans the equipment necessary to perform duties, reporting any failures or need for repair to immediate supervisor or Pharmacy Manager immediately.
  • Accurately places daily order for medications and supplies with wholesaler, vendors, purchasing department, and other pharmacies, communicating potential supply issues to immediate supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Verifies inventory received against the invoice noting any exceptions and communicates these to immediate supervisor or pharmacy inventory coordinator.
  • Stocks shelves, rotating stock appropriately.
  • Makes recommendations for changes to the policies and procedures to the Pharmacy Manager, or other appropriate hospital manager.
  • Maintains flexibility and readiness to work in multiple worksites either at the request of, or in mutual agreement with, leadership.
  • At the request of leadership, administers immunizations in accordance with applicable laws, organizational policy, clinical protocols, and scope-of-practice requirements, while ensuring safe vaccine handling, documentation, and patient education.

  • Provides and maintains a safe environment for caregivers, patients and guests.

Education

Required: High school diploma or GED.

Preferred: N/A

Licensure/Certification/Registration

Required: Pharmacy Technician license through the Oregon Board of Pharmacy.

Preferred: Certified Pharmacy Technician license (CPhT) through the Oregon Board of Pharmacy. National certification through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or National Healthcareer Association (NHA). PTCB Immunization Administration Certificate. AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider certification.

Preferred: Six (6) months of retail pharmacy experience, or related field with experience in medications, sterile technique experience, and computer skills.
