The role you’ll contribute:
The Prescription Transfer Technician performs a wide range of supportive duties to assist the Pharmacist in preparing and dispensing medication so that patients receive consistent care. This position works directly with members and facilitates the transfer of maintenance medications. This role is required to understand all pharmacy processes relating to prescription order entry, claims adjudication, fulfillment, and shipping prescriptions. In addition, this position answers incoming calls into the transfer call center. The technician works only under the supervision of a registered Pharmacist and does not perform duties that can only be legally performed by a registered Pharmacist.

- Maintains confidentiality of patient, employee, medical staff, departmental and administrative information with no infractions.
- Enters new prescription orders assuring that all information is correct including proper patient, drug, medication directions, refills, and physician are selected at order entry.
- Selects correct medications when processing or filling a prescription (checks NDC code) ensuring the prescription is filled correctly and does not activate drugs into inventory without the assistance of the buyers.
- Is aware of daily production goals and works to meet these goals without becoming distracted or being a distraction to other team members.
- Meets call center goals as assigned monthly to achieve appropriate call handle ratio and total call volume answered while contributing to a reduced abandonment rate.
- Understands thoroughly the prescription plan and communicates with members and answers any questions regarding prescriptions, prior authorization process or step therapies.
- Explains the transfer process in an easily understood manner based on a member’s knowledge of prescription program to facilitate transfer of prescription to the mail-order.
- Keeps a record of daily transfer metrics for the EZ Script program and ensures all necessary information is provided to pharmacists to complete the transfer.
- Monitors own queue to ensure that all processes are completed in a timely manner including order entry, adjudicating, and corrections to any orders to ensure a steady flow through production and timely turnaround for the patients.
- Communicates effectively with any customer or team member regarding prescription questions or follow-up.
- Keeps errors to a minimum and uses each failed order as an opportunity to learn and apply the corrections to the next new order.
- Maintains an awareness of pop-ups and reads and follows through with all necessary actions. Plays a role in maintaining effective records, deleting any old notes that are no longer needed and adding new relevant information to the patient’s profile to be communicated to the entire staff as necessary.
- Selects appropriate shipping method for the order according to pharmacy processes or patient’s request making sure that the correct and most cost-effective method is always used, and the pharmacy service standards are being met.
- Communicates any information relative to the order within the comments and ship text to be viewed by QA, Pharmacist, Bookkeeping, Filling and Shipping staff.
- Always works within mandated registered pharmacy technician scope of practice guidelines.
- Notifies triage team of any canceled orders beyond adjudication to ensure that an accurate perpetual inventory is maintained and communicates any credits with bookkeeping as necessary.
- Leaves adequate and understandable notes in the member’s profile and prescription order for any issue that needs to be communicated to other staff members.
- Verifies that all member and dependent information is updated and accurate including address, allergy information, phone number, email address, and payment method
The expertise and experience you’ll need to succeed:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- High School Grad or equivalent
- 1+ year of related experience
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:
- Registered Pharmacy Technician (RPT-LIC)
