Job description

Overview

The primary purpose of the Pharmacy Technician position is to perform a variety of technical and clerical duties for the hospital-wide unit dose medication distribution system and intravenous admixture program. This includes maintaining confidential reports, entering and retrieving data utilizing the computer system, preparing intravenous medication including chemotherapy and hyper-alimentation, filling the automated medication dispensing system with unit dose medications, procuring and filling requests for pharmaceutical supplies, delivering supplies, and assisting the Senior Buyer in ordering, managing, and maintaining inventory.

Responsibilities

• Select the proper medication and/or accessory from stock to match label or cart fill list, label and prepare product in accordance with Pharmacy Practice standards and Hospital Policies and Procedures, and deliver all checked medications.
• Use the automated dispensing system printout to refill automated dispensing system Med Stations to prescribed par levels as per departmental policies and procedures.
• Maintain and restock individual filling stations and work areas, including all satellites, while contributing to the maintenance of a fixed, minimal level of pharmacy inventory. Perform inventory control and purchasing activity as required to keep departmental inventory at appropriate levels.
• Compound sterile products, including intravenous admixtures, total parenteral nutrition solutions, chemotherapy, and miscellaneous products, in accordance with proper aseptic technique, USP <797> and <800> guidelines, and the policies and procedures set by the pharmacy department.
• Coordinate the compounding and distribution of non-sterile products on a daily basis, adhering to proper technique and procedures as established in USP <795> guidelines, Pharmacy policies and procedures, and patient care needs.
• Perform a variety of clerical duties and other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED certificate preferred. Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English required.
• National Pharmacy Technician Certification from the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or the Exam for Certification of Pharmacy Technicians (ExCPT) required, or must be obtained within one (1) year of date of hire.
• Must be a Registered Pharmacy Technician with the New Jersey State Board of Pharmacy.
• Ability to work the third (3rd) shift, 11:30pm-8:00am.

Compensation

In compliance with New Jersey's Pay Transparency Act, the hourly rate for this position is $22.38 per hour.
