Job summary

JobRx, Inc. is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to support the pharmacy team. You will assist patients dropping off prescriptions, ensure accurate patient and insurance information, and enter data into the computer system.

You will interface with insurance carriers for claim payments and help pharmacists under supervision with medication management and labeling. The role includes accuracy at point of sale, inventory management, and collaboration across sites.

Qualifications

  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • State of Michigan Pharmacy Technician license; PTCB or NHA encouraged; BLS certification required.
  • Six months' retail or hospital pharmacy experience preferred.
  • Basic computer skills; pharmacy program literacy; 35 wpm typing; basic pharmaceutical math; knowledge of meds and insurance systems; attention to detail; ability to multi-task.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist patients dropping off prescriptions and collect patient/insurance information.
  • Enter prescription data accurately into computer system.
  • Communicate with insurance carriers to obtain payment for claims.
  • Assist pharmacist under supervision in pharmacy operations and compliance.
  • Assist with filling and labeling prescriptions; contact prescribers for new/refill orders.
  • Verify at point of sale that customers receive correct prescriptions and signatures.
  • Maintain inventory and place expeditious orders; remove outdated drugs.
  • Complete requisitions and receive incoming orders.
  • Answer calls; respond to questions from prescribers, nurses, or patients; refer to pharmacist.
  • Compound ointments/creams under supervision.
  • Pre-packaging and labeling for remote sites.
  • Assist other staff; maintain workflow and cleaning.

Job description

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
  1. Assist patients who are dropping off prescriptions. Ensures that all appropriate patient and insurance information is obtained.(8%)
  2. Ensures that patient/insurance profiles are accurate in the computer system. Reads and accurately enters prescription information into the system.(15%)
  3. Communicate with insurance carriers to obtain payment for prescription claims.(5%)
  4. Assist the pharmacist, under direct supervision, in the practice of pharmacy in accordance with local, state and federal regulations and in accordance with GLBHC policies and protocols.(5%)
  5. Assist the pharmacist with filling and labeling prescriptions. Communicates with prescribers and their agents to obtain new or refill prescriptions. Participates in a team-based approach to Pharmacy Medication Management.(15%)
  6. At point of sale, verifies that the customer receives correct prescription(s) and signs for them.(10%)
  7. Maintains pharmacy inventory by checking pharmaceutical stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed medication and supplies; placing and expediting orders; verifying receipt of orders; removes outdated drugs from inventory.(5%)
  8. Completes requisitions for supplies as needed and receive incoming orders accordingly.(2%)
  9. Answers phone properly and in a timely manner. Responds to routine questions from prescribers, nurses or patients and refers phone calls appropriately to pharmacist. Participates as a patient advocate by communicating with prescribers and their agents to receive new prescriptions and clarification on drug orders.(10%)
  10. Compounds ointments and creams under the supervision of a pharmacist.(1%)
  11. Pre-packaging of bulk medications and appropriately label /record keeping for outlying sites, migrant camps, school-based programs, etc.(2%)
  12. Assist other pharmacy staff as needed.(5%)
  13. Assist pharmacist maintaining workflow utilizing current Pharmacy guidelines/standards.(8%)
  14. Maintains a clean work area utilizing current Pharmacy guidelines/standards.(3%)

MARGINAL JOB DUTIES
  1. Under the guidance of the Pharmacy Director conducts Quality Assurance and Quality Control activities.
  2. Keeps a record of numerous statistical data.
  3. Performs other duties as assigned.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
  1. Education: High School graduate or equivalent.
  2. Liciense: State of Michigan Pharmacy Technician. Pharmacy Technician through PTCB or NHA encouraged. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification Required.
  3. Experience: Six months previous retail or hospital pharmacy experience preferred.
  4. Skills: Basic computer skills, pharmacy program literacy preferred. Able to type accurately at 35 wpm. Able to do basic pharmaceutical math quickly and accurately. Knowledge of medication brands and generic names. Knowledge of insurance and third-party payment systems. Must have excellent attention to detail. Must be able to multi-task efficiently and effectively. Understanding of medical terminology and calculations. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred.
  5. Interpersonal Skills: Strong organizational skills. Strong interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to effectively communication with a diverse population. Professional and courteous attitude. Professional respect for patient\'s rights to confidentiality. Exhibits a team-based approach to customer service.
  6. Physical Effort: Must be able to sit, stand, and or walk for an entire workday. Must be able to lift, carry, push, pull, and or twist while holding up to 25 lbs. occasionally.
  7. Hours of Work: Full-time or Part-Time; flexible and varied. Float between sites as necessary.
  8. Travel: Local travel between sites as necessary. Reimbursement for expenses provided according to existing rates as established by GLBHC policy. Must be a licensed driver with proof of personal liability and property damage insurance.
