Job summary

Beth Israel Lahey Health is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to support three area work zones within the Pharmacy in Burlington, MA. The role covers central operating room, sterile and hazardous compounding, and related duties with a focus on safe and timely medication distribution.

The ideal candidate has Massachusetts licensure or equivalent student status and at least one year of pharmacy experience, including sterile compounding or retail. EMR experience is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Registered Technician or Pharmacy Intern with MA Board certification or student in good standing.
  • Experience with sterile compounding and/or retail pharmacy.
  • Knowledge of standard pharmaceutical terminology and handling of controlled substances.
  • Experience with Electronic Medical Records preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Work across multiple areas within the Pharmacy including Central Operating Room, Sterile compounding, and Hazardous medication compounding.
  • Serve as trainer for a specified area and manage training materials.
  • Maintain inventory levels by rotating stock and coordinating with the Pharmacy Buyer.
  • Assist with timely medication distribution and triage telephone requests.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities including but not limited to:Must have one of the following: Works in three different areas within the Pharmacy in addition to primary work area:CentralOperating RoomSterile compounding (IV Room)Hazardous medication compounding (Infusion Center)ResearchReceivingOutpatient PharmacyQuality AssuranceInformaticsExcellence and specialization in one area as demonstrated by:Serving as primary trainer for that area including management of training materialsTaking additional responsibility for at least one process (e.g. gloved fingertip and media fill sampling, compounding and repackaging, TraySafe workflows, satellite inventory control, DSCSA compliance, etc.)Suggests workflow efficiencies and collaborates with the Lead Technicians and management to help implement new practicesIn conjunction with other Pharmacy Technicians, ensures that all medication distribution functions are completed in a safe and timely manner. Informs Pharmacist and/or the Supervisor of any workflow issues.Repackages and compounds medications as needed, in accordance with departmental procedures.Maintains appropriate inventory levels in specific area of practice by rotating stock, checking for expired medications, informing the Pharmacy Buyer when inventory levels are low, and checking in wholesaler order.Answers telephone calls, triaging requests and taking steps to resolves questions received or concerns and problems.Actively participates in continuous performance improvement activities of the department, including providing suggestions on how to improve day-to-day operations.Helps the Pharmacists ensure that the Pharmacy has the right amount of stock to meet patient needs.Incorporates Lahey Clinic Guiding Principles, Mission Statement and Goals into daily activities. Complies with all Lahey Clinic Policies.Complies with behavioral expectations of the department and LC.Maintains courteous and effective interactions with colleagues and patients. Demonstrates an understanding of the job description, performance expectations, and competency assessment.Demonstrates a commitment toward meeting and exceeding the needs of our patients and customers. Consistently adheres to Customer Service standards. Participates in departmental and/or interdepartmental quality improvement activities.Participates in and successfully completes Mandatory Education.Performs all other duties as needed or directed to meet the needs of the department.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: High School diploma or equivalent

Licensure, Certification, Registration: Must be a Registered Technician or Pharmacy Intern with the Massachusetts Board of Pharmacy and PTCB certified or a Pharmacy student in good standing with Mass. internship license.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities: Knowledge of standard pharmaceutical/medical terms, abbreviations and symbols commonly used in the prescribing and dispensing of medications. Knowledge of policies and regulations pertaining to handling and distribution of controlled substances and hazardous materials preferred. Experience with electronic medical records preferred.

Experience: At least one year of Pharmacy experience including sterile compounding and/or retail experience.

Pay Range

$27.56 - $37.10

The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law. Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices, as applicable to the position and in accordance with the law.
