Qualifications

  • HS/GED plus 4 yrs Pharmacy Tech Experience
  • Proficient in technician roles across settings
  • 1 year to obtain ASHP/ACPE accredited technician training or certificate
  • National Technician Certification (PTCB)
  • Pharmacy Technician License by Arkansas Board of Pharmacy
  • Proof of legal work authorization in the United States
  • Advanced degree (preferred)
  • Strong math skills (preferred)
  • 2+ years of UAMS pharmacy experience (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, direct, coordinate and provide first-line administrative and technical functions
  • Procure, stock, and manage inventory for UAMS Health hospitals and clinics
  • Support pharmacy improvement initiatives, regulatory compliance, and operational monitoring
  • Maintain, change, and implement workflows, technology and process improvement projects
  • Develop training and competencies for employees and students
  • Promote staff engagement and customer service
  • Serve on committees and attend meetings
  • Orient new hires on requirements and procedures
  • Counsel employees on performance issues and disciplinary actions
  • Assist with changes to specialized medication computer systems
  • Assist with technology upgrades, testing and training
  • Communicate with departments and healthcare professionals per policy
  • Assist with accreditation activities including Joint Commission and State Board
  • Assist Pharmacy Manager with special projects and cover shifts
  • Assist with student training and programs
  • Assist P&T committee with formulary decisions
  • Monitor environmental logs and Pyxis operations
  • Expedite STAT/NOW orders and deliver medication carts
  • Rotate medications and restock areas
  • Maintain Pyxis stock and security of controlled substances
  • Monitor removal of expired drugs
  • Inspect drug storage areas
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Job description

  • Supervise, direct, coordinate and provide first‑line administrative and technical functions for technicians, volunteers, students, and other personnel
  • Procure, stock, and manage inventory for UAMS Health hospitals and clinics
  • Support pharmacy improvement initiatives, departmental goals, patient and staff safety, regulatory compliance, and operational monitoring
  • Maintain, change, and implement workflows, technology/automation, and process improvement projects
  • Develop training, education, and competencies for employees and rotation students
  • Promote staff engagement and customer service
  • Serve on committees and attend assigned meetings
  • Orient new hires on job requirements, policies, and work procedures
  • Counsel employees on unsatisfactory performance and work behaviors
  • Administer formal disciplinary actions, up to and including termination
  • Implement changes to specialized medication computer systems
  • Assist with technology upgrades, testing, and training
  • Communicate with departments, healthcare professionals, and services according to policies and procedures
  • Assist with accreditation activities including Joint Commission and State Board activities
  • Assist Pharmacy Manager(s) with special projects and cover shifts when needed
  • Assist with student training and programs
  • Assist P&T committee with formulary and non-formulary drug additions and removals
  • Monitor temperature, humidity, and pressure logs
  • Expedite STAT/NOW orders and deliver medication carts and Pyxis accurately and promptly
  • Rotate medications and restock assigned areas daily
  • Maintain Pyxis Stock Out on units
  • Maintain security of controlled substances
  • Monitor monthly removal of expired drugs
  • Inspect and maintain drug storage areas
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • HS/GED plus 4 yrs Pharmacy Tech Experience (i.e. retail, hospital, etc.) or Bachelors Degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences
  • Competent in all areas and technician roles
  • 1 year to obtain ASHP/ACPE accredited technician training or certificate program
  • National Technician Certification (PTCB)
  • Pharmacy Technician License by the Arkansas State Board of Pharmacy
  • Proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment
  • Annual TB Screening, Criminal Background Check, Sex Offender Registry, Substance Abuse Testing
  • Advanced Degree (preferred)
  • Good/Strong Math Skills (preferred)
  • 2+ years of UAMS pharmacy experience (preferred)
