Job summary

Children’s Colorado in Aurora, CO is seeking a Pharmacy Technician under the direction of a licensed pharmacist to support pharmacy operations and prepare medications for dispensing.

This PRN position features rotating day and evening shifts, with specific times and weekend/holiday requirements, and hourly pay ranging from $20.14 to $30.21, plus shift differentials.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Colorado Pharmacy Technician (PHAT) certification is required.
  • Certification by NABP-approved body (PTCB or NHA) is required.

Responsibilities

  • Independently prepares medications for dispensing per policy.
  • Assists with safety and quality improvement projects.
  • Supports shipping, monthly clinical assessments, and ordering.
  • Interacts with patients, families, providers, and staff.
  • Manages inventory, including outdated meds, cycle counts, and restocks.
  • Prepares medications using pharmacy software and verifies lot/exp dates.
  • Uses standard pharmaceutical terms and dosage calculations.

Under the direction of a licensed pharmacist and following established policies and procedures, the Pharmacy Technician performs a variety of technical procedures to support pharmacy operations.

Job Status: PRN (as needed)
Shift:Variable, rotating day and evening shifts weekly as determined by department need.
Shift Times:5:00am-1:30pm, 6:00am-2:30pm, 2:00pm-10:30pm, 3:00pm-11:30pm
Weekend Requirement:1 weekend per month (every 4thweekend), rotation determined by business need and training
Holiday Requirement:2 major holidays per year

Hourly Range:$20.14 to $30.21 *Based on hours worked per week and years of experience.
Position is eligible for shift differentials (PRN, evening, night & weekend).

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Independently prepares medication for dispensing/patient administration in accordance with hospital policy and procedure.
  • Assists with safety and quality improvement projects for the department including accreditation.
  • May assist with shipping medications, monthly clinical assessments and ordering medications.
  • May interact and communicate with patients, families, providers, and co-workers including point of sale, benefit investigation and insurance coordination.
  • Assists in inventory management, including following department policies and procedures to manage outdated medications, cycle counts, unit inspections and medication transfer. Restocks medications as needed.
  • Independently prepares medications for dispensing through pharmacy software while verifying all lot and expiration numbers; follows appropriate pharmacy software procedures when preparing medications.
  • Applies standard pharmaceutical/medical terms, abbreviations and symbols commonly used in the prescribing and dispensing of medications.
  • Performs arithmetic calculations for usual dosage determinations required in medication preparation.
  • Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, quality improvement, environmental and infection control standards, adheres to regulatory requirements and maintains environmental cleanliness of the pharmacy areas in accordance with regulatory and policy requirements.
  • Reports errors and adverse drug events using the hospital variance reporting program (QSRS).
  • Maintains daily workflow to meet established priorities and production requirements and completes daily operations tasks utilizing assigned applications and software.
  • Assists in the onboarding of pharmacy technicians, pharmacists, pharmacy residents, interns, and students.

Minimum Qualifications

  • EDUCATION – High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • CERTIFICATION(S) -
  • State of Colorado Pharmacy Technician (PHAT) Certification
  • Certificate through a nationally recognized certification board or body approved by the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP) such as the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or National Healthcare Association (NHA)

Salary Information Pay is dependent on applicant's relevant experience.
Hourly Range: $20.14 to $30.21
