Job summary

Harborview Medical Center is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to join the Inpatient Pharmacy team. You will assist the Pharmacist with preparation and packaging of medications and deliver to nursing units under supervision.

This full-time role features a rotating/variable shift and requires six months of experience as a Pharmacy Assistant or equivalent, plus State of WA Pharmacy Technician certification. A pre-employment drug screen is required.

Qualifications

  • Six months of experience as a Pharmacy Assistant OR equivalent education/experience.
  • State of Washington Pharmacy Technician certification.
  • Pre-employment drug screen required.

Responsibilities

  • Work in the IV room and compound IV medications in accordance with USP 797 standards.
  • Deliver medications to nursing units and other areas of the hospital.
  • Package medications in single-unit packages.
  • Restock shelves in the unit dose fill and front counter areas.
  • Complete monthly outdate check and cleaning as assigned by Manager.
  • Package patient specific medications in single-unit packages.
  • Perform bulk compounding of medication, under the supervision of a Pharmacist.
  • Triage clinical inquiries requiring a pharmacist's professional judgement.
  • Answer inquiries not requiring a pharmacist's professional judgement.
  • Fill medications for automated dispensing cabinet refills for the entire hospital
  • Handle, dispense and deliver hazardous drugs in accordance with USP 800 standards.
  • Know and follow all Pharmacy Department policies and procedures.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

WORK SCHEDULE
  • Full-Time / 40 hours per week
  • Rotating/Variable Shift
POSITION HIGHLIGHTS
  • Assist the Pharmacist in professional activities and assigned tasks including preparation and packaging of medications and other pharmacy-related functions
  • All activities are performed under the general supervision of a registered Pharmacist
  • Strong candidates will have knowledge and experience with sterile intravenous admixture practices preferred, and good communication and organizational skills.

REQUIRED POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
