Job summary

Sioux Center Health is looking for a Pharmacy Technician-in-Training to join their team at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. This entry-level position allows individuals to complete a nationally accredited Pharmacy Technician Education Program while gaining hands-on experience. The pay range for this role is $19.25 to $26.75 per hour, dependent on experience.

The role involves a variety of responsibilities, including medication distribution, inventory management, and clerical functions. Eligible candidates may also receive a sign-on bonus.

Inpatient Pharmacy Highlights

A Brief Overview

Assists in drug preparation, storage, distribution, and inventory management within a variety of pharmacy environments. This entry‑level position participates in and completes Avera Health’s Pharmacy Technician Education Program to prepare for the Certified Pharmacy Technician examination. Upon successful PTCB examination, the Technician‑In‑Training is promoted to Pharmacy Technician. The program consists of didactic, simulation, and experiential learning activities. Avera requires a two‑year employment commitment upon completion of the program. Technician‑In‑Training works under direct supervision of a registered pharmacist.

What You Will Do

• Participate in and complete Avera Pharmacy Technician Education Program to become PTCB certified.
• Under pharmacist supervision, accurately input and/or prepare labels and packages for inpatient or outpatient medication orders and prescriptions.
• Demonstrate knowledge of medications, calculations, regulations, personal protective equipment, and patient safety.
• Effectively communicate with nursing staff, physicians, customers, co‑workers, supervisor, and management; participate in interdepartmental work groups and committees to promote high‑quality communication and prevent patient harm.
• Perform clerical functions such as billing and pharmacy inventory procedures to promote an efficient medication distribution system.

Required Education, License/Certification, Or Work Experience

• Pharmacy Technician‑in‑Training – South Dakota Board of Pharmacy registration within 30 days of start date.
• Certified Pharmacy Technician – Board of Pharmacy or approved alternative certification. Extensions beyond 1 year may be available in some states.

Preferred Education, License/Certification, Or Work Experience

• High School diploma or GED equivalency.
• Less than 1 year related experience.
