Job summary

Beth Israel Lahey Health is seeking an experienced Hospital Pharmacy Technician to support central operations, IV prep, and automated dispensing systems. You will ensure accurate billing, manage inventory, and train new staff in sterile compounding and USP guidelines.

The role requires 5+ years hospital pharmacy experience, state registration, CPhT, and strong computer skills including Epic. Compliance with all regulatory and safety standards is essential.

Qualifications

  • Hospital pharmacy experience required (5+ years).
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Registered technician with state board.
  • Pharmacy technician (CPhT) certification preferred.
  • Experience with sterile compounding.
  • Ability to perform complex pharmaceutical calculations.
  • Proficient with Epic and basic MS Office applications.

Responsibilities

  • Restocks floor stock and automated dispensing machines.
  • Enters charges/credits to maintain accurate patient billing.
  • Monitors medication order reports and assigns meds to automation.
  • Delivers medications in compliance with DEA, DPH and State Board regs.
  • Repackages meds per USP 795/800 standards.
  • Prepares and delivers IV meds per USP 797/800, maintains records and QA.
  • Checks for expired/damaged meds and disposes per regulatory rules.
  • Oversees storage areas to ensure regulatory compliance and corrects deficiencies.
  • Oversees procurement, receiving, and inventory management.
  • Oversees automated dispensing systems inventory.
  • Trains new staff in Central Pharmacy Ops and compounding.
  • Supports onboarding, training materials, and operational standards.
  • Interface with hospital departments to implement initiatives.
  • Gather data and prepare reports; participate in billing, AP, and space management.

Job Description
Essential Core Responsibilities
  • Restocks floor stock/automated dispensing machines.
  • Enters charges/credits against patient profile to ensure an accurate bill
  • Monitors medication order reports to assign medication to an automated dispensing machine. Delivers all medication in
  • Delivers all medication in compliance with all DEA, DPH & State Board of Pharmacy regulations
  • Repackages bulk supplies of medications in unit of use packaging in accordance with all Federal USP <795> & USP<800> standards
  • Prepares and delivers IV medications in accordance with Federal USP <797> & USP <800> standards. Maintains records pertaining to IV admixtures, maintains cleanliness in sterile areas, and completes QA
  • Checks for expired medications within the pharmacy & automated dispensing cabinets. Ensures that all expired/damaged medications are disposed of in accordance with RCRA, OSHA & NIOSH regulations
Level Specific Responsibilities
  • Oversees in the inspection of medication storage areas to ensure compliance with regulations and standards and takes actions to correct deficiencies.
  • Oversees drug procurement and receiving and takes actions to improve inventory management.
  • Oversees automated dispensing systems inventory management.

Oversees diversion prevention monitoring and takes action to improve outcomes.

  • Responsible for training new staff in Central Pharmacy Operations. Tasks include but are not limited to: (1) Automated Dispensing Cabinet responsibilities, (2) Medication monitoring reports, (3) Restocking, and (4) Expiration Date Checking
  • Responsible for training new staff in extemporaneous non-sterile compounding and repackaging of medications in accordance to all USP guidelines
  • Responsible for training new staff in all Sterile Products areas. Training includes clean room operations, documentation/QA, and all areas of compounding including, but not limited to: (1) Low/Medium Risk compounding, (2) High Risk compounding, (3) TPN, (4) Neonatal, (5) Hazardous and chemotherapeutic
  • Responsible for onboarding new staff
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of training objectives and manuals in all areas of the pharmacy
  • Assist with development and implementation of operational standards
  • Interface with other Hospital departments to implement initiatives
  • Conceptualize, implement, and monitor operational department initiatives in accordance with direction from Director of Pharmacy in a timely manner.
  • Gather data and prepare reports to meet the needs of the department.
  • Participate in activities related to billing and accounts payable
  • Participate in managing pharmacy physical space and supplies
  • Participate in analysis of medication misadventures and implementation of quality improvement
  • Participate in managing pharmacy informatics
Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years hospital pharmacy experience
  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Registered Technician with State
  • CPhT
  • Sterile compounding experience
  • Ability to teach complex pharmaceutical calculations
  • Expertise in Epic
  • Proficiency with computer systems required, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access

Pay Range

$29.00 - $39.03

The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law. Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices, as applicable to the position and in accordance with the law.
