Job summary

MedStar Health in Maryland seeks a Pharmacy Technician III to prepare and fill routine medication orders under pharmacist supervision. The role includes restocking automated dispensing machines, repackaging medications, and preparing sterile and non-sterile compounds.

Qualified candidates will have a High School Diploma or GED, completion of an accredited Technician program, and 3–4 years hospital pharmacy experience with IV admixture preferred. Licensing requirements apply.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Completion of an approved/accredited Pharmacy Technician Training Program required.
• AA/BS or some college credits in Natural or Physical sciences and/or Business Management preferred.
• One year of relevant education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.

Responsibilities

• Under supervision, prepares oral, topical and all parenteral medications for dispensing to patients including labeling and packaging.
• Provides cross coverage for specialty pharmacy technician roles in multi-functional duties (60% of shift).
• Performs higher level duties: controlled substance monitoring, process improvement, procedure development, procurement, discrepancy resolution and inventory management.
• Assists pharmacists in obtaining patient-specific information for safe medication management and communicates with healthcare professionals.
• Prepares medications in ready-to-administer form using proper techniques and precautions; labels with drug name, strength, quantity, beyond-use date, patient name and location; maintains repackaging documentation.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
