Job summary

Indiana University Health System in Indianapolis seeks a detail-oriented pharmacy technician to join our home infusion team. You will handle, prepare, compound, and distribute medications under pharmacist supervision, maintaining sterile compounding standards.

Responsibilities include inventory, pipeline processing, and medication histories, with emphasis on accurate order entry and patient safety. Requires Indiana tech license and national certification; high school diploma or GED is required.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years relevant experience preferred.
  • No criminal history related to the ability to work with drugs.
  • Strong mathematical calculation skills.
  • Working knowledge of pharmacy technician duties under supervision.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Effective customer service skills.
  • Intermediate typing and Microsoft Office proficiency.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Indiana Pharmacy Technician License OR intern/extern license if enrolled in accredited college of pharmacy.
  • Pharmacy Technician National Certification required unless enrolled in accredited college of pharmacy.

Responsibilities

  • Handle, prepare, compound, and distribute medications and maintain sterile compounding suite.
  • Support pharmacy department in inventory, preparation, distribution, and processing of medications.
  • Assist with specialty medications and medication histories.
  • Process medication orders including phone calls, refills, and system entry.
  • Prepare medications for pharmacist check and for disbursement/shipment/delivery.
  • Minimize potential medication errors and adhere to policies; escalate issues as needed.
  • Assist in bulk compounding and IV solution preparation as applicable.

"The field of Home Infusion Pharmacy has revolutionized healthcare, providing patients with personalized, lifesaving therapy from the comfort of their home and the freedom to resume life's daily activities.

We are seeking a detail-oriented pharmacy technician to join our expanding team of sterile compounding experts and play a pivotal role in delivering these life saving services. As a key member of our team, this position is responsible for the handling, preparation, compounding, and distribution of medications, as well as maintaining the integrity of our sterile compounding suite. A strong candidate is one that embraces our culture of strict adherence to local policies and guidelines, vigilantly supports their teammates, and continually pursues personal improvement opportunities.

Under pharmacist supervision, supports the pharmacy department in one or more of the following areas: inventory, preparation, distribution, compounding, processing of medications and supplies, specialty medications, and medication histories. Assists with all functions required for medication processing including answering telephones, taking refill orders, entering orders into system, preparing the medication for pharmacist check, preparing medications for disbursement/shipment/delivery. Key job duties may consist of handling supplies, stocking prepackaged items, maintaining inventory, delivering supplies, maintaining records, distributing supplies. May assist in bulk compounding and preparation of I.V. solutions. Works with pharmacy staff to minimize the potential for medication errors. Exercises sound judgement, anticipates potential issues and challenges in common situations and applies standard policies and procedures to determine solutions or escalation.

  • 2+ years relevant experience preferred.
  • Requires the absence of criminal history related to the ability to work with drugs.
  • Requires strong mathematical calculation skills.
  • Requires working knowledge and skills as a pharmacy technician in assigned areas and ability to work within established procedures under moderate supervision.
  • Requires effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Requires effective customer service skills.
  • Requires intermediate proficiency typing and using Microsoft Office applications. High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Requires Indiana Pharmacy Technician License OR intern/extern license if enrolled in accredited college of pharmacy.
  • Pharmacy Technician National Certification required unless enrolled in accredited college of pharmacy.
