Job summary

Allegheny Health Network is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to provide distributive pharmacy services and support for the registered pharmacist in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

Responsibilities include processing orders, inventory management, and patient interactions. Qualified candidates will have a high school diploma and a valid Pharmacy Technician certification or PA registration eligibility. A sign-on bonus of $5,000 is offered for a 1-year commitment.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma/GED.
  • Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT) or ExCPT (NHA).
  • Completion of a pharmacy technician training program or 1 year equivalent experience.
  • Registration as Pharmacy Technician Trainee or Pharmacy Technician through PA State Board by 2026-06-28.
  • Preferred: 1 year of pharmacy experience.

Responsibilities

  • Processes medication orders including computer order entry and preparation.
  • Maintains pharmacy inventory and supplies per established policies and procedures.
  • Provides customer service by taking patient prescriptions and documenting required information.
  • For Outpatient Techs: validates insurance coverage & handles cash, deposits and accounting reports.
  • For Inpatient Techs: compounds, stocks, repackages and prepares IV medications.
  • Central Fill Pharmacy: safe operation of equipment.
  • Other duties as assigned.

General Overview

This position is eligible for a $5,000 sign on bonus for a 1-year commitment.

Provides distributive pharmacy services, assistance and support for the registered pharmacist.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Processes medication orders including computer order entry, medication preparation and assembles all items prior to pharmacist final check. (25%)
  • Maintains pharmacy inventory and supplies according to established policies and procedures, including inspection of assigned areas and use of pharmacy computer systems. (25%)
  • Provides customer service by taking patient's prescriptions and documenting all required information, handles all customer interactions in a courteous and efficient manner, and releases medications required by policy/procedure. (25%)
  • For Outpatient Techs: Validates Medicaid, Medicare, or commercial insurance drug coverage and ensures adjudication is complete addressing any error messages, plus handles cash, prepares deposits and accounting reports. (25%)
  • For Inpatient Techs: Compounds, stocks, repackages and batches from bulk medications. Prepares routine patient orders for IV pharmaceuticals including compounding, preparation and labeling of any IV admixture including antibiotics, solutions, irrigations, narcotics, parenteral nutrition and chemotherapy (25%)
  • Central Fill Pharmacy: Safe operation of equipment assigned, including but not limited to: forklifts, order pickers, reach trucks, or other material handling equipment
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum
  • High school diploma/GED
  • Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT) or ExCPT (NHA)
  • completion of a pharmacy technician training program or 1 year equivalent experience
  • Effective June 28, 2026; upon hire and before start date, registration as Pharmacy Technician Trainee or Pharmacy Technician through the PA State Board of Pharmacy.
Preferred
  • 1 year of pharmacy experience in respective area.
