Job Description

GENERAL OVERVIEW

Under the direct supervision of a pharmacist, performs a wide variety of technical, clinical, and clerical duties to support the hospital-wide unit-dose drug distribution system and intravenous admixture program. Responsibilities include maintaining confidential reports, data entry and retrieval, preparing intravenous medications, filing and delivering routine orders, and assisting pharmacists. All orders are checked by a pharmacist prior to dispensing.

Essential Responsibilities

1. Distribution/Processing: Delivers medications, completes order entry, processes charges, and answers department calls. Fills routine patient orders, prepares IV admixtures, and utilizes pharmacy technology effectively.
2. Inventory: Maintains pharmacy inventory, assists with ordering and storing pharmaceuticals, and restocks medications.
3. IV Prep/Packaging: Compounds, stocks, and prepares routine IV medications.
4. Work Environment: Supports department operations, maintains cleanliness, and manages computer functions.
5. Safety and Quality: Participates in quality improvement and compliance efforts, fostering a safety-oriented environment.
6. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum

• Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT) or ExCPT required within 24 months of hire. Incumbents as of July 1, 2022, must achieve CPhT by 1/1/2024.

Preferred

• Completion of a pharmacy technician training program.
• Previous experience in a healthcare setting.
