Job summary

AdventHealth in Davenport, FL is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to accurately dispense medications, manage pharmacy software and automation, and support safe, compliant patient care across shifts.

Responsibilities include inventory control, collaboration with clinicians, and participation in safety initiatives while following pharmacist supervision and institutional policies.

Qualifications

  • High level of accuracy with drug dispensing and dosing.
  • Experience with medication safety and preventing errors.
  • Ability to interpret electronic health records accurately.

Responsibilities

  • Dispense patient-specific medications accurately with correct drug, dose, and expiration dating.
  • Operate and troubleshoot medication automation systems and pharmacy software; interpret EHRs.
  • Maintain inventory by rotating stock, removing expired medications, and documenting counts.
  • Identify and report medication errors to support a culture of safety.
  • Collaborate with pharmacists, technicians, nurses and other staff to ensure continuity of care.

Job Description:
  • Accurately prepares and safely dispenses patient‑specific medication doses, ensuring correct drug, dose, dosage form, expiration dating, and barcode scanning.
  • Operates and troubleshoots medication automation systems, ADCs, and pharmacy software; interprets electronic health records accurately to support safe medication practices.
  • Maintains inventory integrity by rotating stock, removing expired medications, and ensuring accurate medication counts and documentation.
  • Identifies, reports, and helps prevent potential medication errors, including look‑alike/sound‑alike risks, contributing to a culture of safety.
  • Handles, processes, and disposes of all waste materials, including hazardous substances, in compliance with safety protocols using appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), spill kits, and environmental protocols.
  • Participates in initiatives that improve medication‑use processes and supports compliance with regulatory standards and institutional accreditation requirements.
  • Works effectively with technicians, pharmacists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient care and ensure continuity of pharmacy services across shifts, staffing assignments, and practice areas.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Contributes to departmental quality improvement efforts, attends educational activities, and supports training and mentorship of peers and pharmacy learners.
  • Executes foundational pharmacy technician duties with proficiency in standard workflows, hospital systems, and pharmacy operational programs under pharmacist supervision.
  • Demonstrates competency in foundational services such as medication dispensing, preparation, inventory management, and regulatory compliance.
  • Provides coverage across foundational pharmacy practice areas, including central/distributive pharmacy operations, decentralized services, and automated dispensing cabinet (ADC) management as assigned.

  • Flexibility and willingness to adapt to changes as necessary - Required
  • Ability to interact constructively with supervisors, peers, and external customers - Required
  • Ability to follow direction from formal management personnel and work well under direct supervision of a pharmacist - Required
  • Ability to identify, follow up, and resolve discrepancies - Required
  • Ability to identify, mitigate, and elevate when necessary pharmacy operational or program issues - Required
  • Ability to keep accurate and complete records - Required
  • Knowledge of medical terminology - Required
  • Must be able to read, write and speak conversational English - Required
  • Basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office - Required
  • Proficiency in hospital computer system technology and automation - Preferred
Education:
  • High School Grad or Equiv [Required]
  • Technical/Vocational School [Preferred]
Field of Study:
  • Completion of a pharmacy technician training program [Preferred]
Licenses and Certifications:
  • Registered Pharmacy Technician (RPht) {Required]
