Job summary

Henry Ford Health in Detroit is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to support discharge processes, process prescriptions, and assist with inventory under the supervision of a registered pharmacist. The role requires a high school diploma or GED and a valid Michigan Pharmacy Technician license, with six months of retail pharmacy experience preferred.

You will interact with patients and healthcare staff, ensure accurate records, and help with billing and insurance verification.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Process and distribute prescriptions and over-the-counter medications to patients at discharge.
• Enter prescription data into the computer system and maintain accurate records in compliance with pharmacy standards.
• Handle patient payments and process billing transactions, including insurance verification and prior authorization requests.
• Stock, organize, and maintain pharmacy inventory with attention to expiration dates and proper storage conditions.
• Communicate professionally with patients and healthcare staff, including nursing and discharge planning teams.
• Provide basic medication counseling and patient education under pharmacist supervision.
• Verify prescription accuracy and completeness prior to patient pickup, flagging discrepancies for pharmacist review.
• Coordinate with clinical departments to ensure timely medication availability for discharge.
• Handle controlled substances and other restricted medications in accordance with state and federal regulations.

Qualifications

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent required. Minimum of six (6) months of retail pharmacy experience preferred.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED: Requires valid State of Michigan Pharmacy Technician license.
