Position Summary

The Pharmacy Technician assists the pharmacist in providing safe, accurate, and efficient pharmacy services while delivering exceptional customer service to clients and healthcare providers. This position supports medication dispensing, inventory management, client communication, third-party billing, and operational activities in accordance with Indiana law, federal regulations, and pharmacy policies. The Pharmacy Technician works under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist and maintains active registration with the Indiana Board of Pharmacy, as required by state law. The Community Health Worker (CHW) supports Neighborhood Health Center (NHC) in accordance with the policies of the Board of Directors, the CEO, and funding agencies. The CHW is a trusted member and has a close understanding of the community we serve. This trusted relationship enables the CHW to serve as a liaison and build rapport between our clients/families, our clinics/staff, health/social services, and the community to facilitate access to services and improve the quality of healthcare and introduce our clients to all elements of wellness. The CHW builds individual and community capacity by increasing health knowledge and self-sufficiency through a range of activities such as outreach, community education, informal counseling, social support and advocacy.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Prescription Processing
  • Receives and accurately enters new and refill prescriptions.
  • Prepares prescriptions for pharmacist verification.
  • Accurately labels and packages medications.
  • Processes electronic prescriptions.
  • Maintains client confidentiality in accordance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
Customer Service
  • Assists clients in person and by telephone.
  • Resolves routine client questions within the technician scope of practice.
  • Directs clinical questions to the pharmacist.
  • Communicates professionally with prescribers and clinical staff.
Insurance Processing
  • Processes third-party prescription claims.
  • Assists with prior authorization coordination as directed.
  • Resolves routine claim rejections.
  • Collects appropriate copayments and maintain accurate financial transactions.
Inventory Management
  • Receives and stocks medication orders.
  • Rotates inventory and monitors expiration dates.
  • Maintains appropriate inventory levels.
  • Removes expired or damaged medications according to policy.
  • Assists with controlled substance inventory and documentation as directed.
Compliance
  • Complies with all federal and Indiana pharmacy laws and regulations.
  • Follows all pharmacy standard operating procedures (SOPs) and quality assurance procedures.
  • Completes all required compliance and continuing education training.
  • Maintains Indiana Pharmacy Technician registration in good standing.
Clinical Support
  • Supports medication synchronization programs.
  • Assists with adherence outreach.
  • Coordinates refill requests with providers.
  • Assts with client enrollment in pharmacy services.
  • Supports clinic care teams as appropriate.
General Pharmacy Operations
  • Maintains a clean, organized pharmacy.
  • Assists with opening and closing procedures.
  • Participates in quality improvement initiatives.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned by pharmacy leadership.
Community Health Worker (CHW):
  • Establishes trusting relationships with clients and their families while providing general support and encouragement.
  • Uses standardized assessments to determine most appropriate evidenced based interventions.
  • Assists clients in understanding their medications care plans and instructions.
  • Provides ongoing follow-up, basic motivational interviewing and goal setting with clients/families.
  • Assists clients with identifying socio-economic barriers that affect their overall health and develop health/social management plans
