Job description

Pharmacy Technician, Certified or Trainee - Acute Care Pediatrics 100% PM

Under general pharmacist supervision, coordinates and performs technical activities in dispensing areas. Supports development, coordination, and training of assigned areas, providing functional supervision as needed. Shifts are 8 hours between 3:00 pm - 11:30 pm, every other weekend.

Responsibilities include:

  • Managing inventory in satellites and dispensing areas, including emergency supplies.
  • Reviewing medication inventory for expired items.
  • Maintaining medication levels according to par levels.
  • Handling inpatient Epic In-Baskets, including printing labels, preparing medications, and documentation.
  • Delivering and returning medications in patient care areas.
  • Ensuring medication security and proper storage, including controlled substances.
  • Maintaining records related to medication distribution and dispensing.
  • Using equipment such as laminar flow hoods, label printers, and automated dispensing systems.
  • Maintaining cleanliness and quality assurance in sterile compounding areas.
  • Preparing sterile and non-sterile products following aseptic techniques and safety protocols.
  • Inspecting patient care areas regularly.
  • Training pharmacy students and new technicians.
  • Managing narcotics and controlled substances inventory and documentation.
  • Refilling OmnicellXT Medstations accurately.
  • Assisting in medication inspections on patient care units.

The department will consider candidates for either the Trainee or Certified Technician position, indicated in your application.

Minimum eligibility for Trainee Technician:

  • Registered with the Pharmacy Board at hire.
  • Must become certified within one year.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in sciences or completion of a pharmacy technician training program.

Minimum eligibility for Certified Technician:

  • Registered with the Pharmacy Board at hire.
  • Certification through PTCB or NHA, with ongoing education requirements.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience or training as above.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to calculate ratios and proportions for pharmaceuticals.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with inventory, teamwork, detail-oriented work, and computer skills.
  • Experience in healthcare settings involving patient interaction and handling challenging situations.
  • National Career Readiness Certificate at Silver level preferred.
