RWJBarnabas Health is seeking a Pharmacy Technician Certified to join the Jersey City Medical Center Pharmacy team in Jersey City, NJ. This hourly, full-time role supports pharmacological services under pharmacist supervision, handling dispensing, preparation, and distribution of medications for all patient ages.

The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, NJ tech certification preferred or to be obtained within 90 days, and willingness to work alternating weekends and holidays.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Associates degree preferred; hospital central experience desirable.
• CPhT certification preferred or must be obtained within 90 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Assist in provision of pharmaceutical services under supervision of Pharmacist.
• Dispense, prepare and distribute medications and related products.
• Perform dosage calculations and label medications accurately.
• Maintain Pyxis system accuracy and records.
• Rotate shifts and weekends as required.

Job Overview:

The Pharmacy Technician assists in the provision of pharmaceutical services under the direct supervision of the Registered Pharmacist by performing the technical, clerical, and manipulative tasks involved in dispensing, preparing, and distributing all medications and pharmaceutical products for all patient age groups (including geriatrics, and adult).

Qualifications:

Required:

• High School diploma or equivalent

Preferred:

• Previous hospital central experience is desirable
• Associates degree preferred
• Prior pharmacy experience preferred
• Prior experience with dispensing in an institutional environment preferred

Certifications and Licenses Required:

• State of New Jersey Pharmacy Technician, CPhT preferred or must be obtained within 90 days of hire.

• Alternating Weekends and Holidays

Essential Functions:

• Assists in care and maintenance of departmental premises and equipment
• Communicates all discrepancies and information requested to a Registered Pharmacist
• Displays self initiative in anticipating and resolving daily work issues
• Files departmental records as appropriate
• Performs dosage calculations and labels appropriately
• Technician displays competency in maintaining, filing, troubleshooting, and running reports in Pyxis
• Under the direction of the Pharmacist, prepares medication for dispensing; maintains unit dose system; delivers drug orders; and maintains and demonstrates awareness of limitations of technicians
• Willingness and flexibility to work alternating and rotating work schedules on short notice
• Willingness to work with attention to detail with the realization that errors may have serious consequences.
