Actalent is seeking a Pharmacy Technician II for a fully remote contract role based in Houston, TX. Under pharmacist supervision, you will prepare prescription orders, perform data entry, and handle outbound calls to prescribers, ensuring accuracy and compliance.

The ideal candidate has at least 2 years of pharmacy technician experience, current certification (CPhT or equivalent) and an active license. Typical hours are 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. ET, with remote work setup required.

Job Description

The Pharmacy Technician II works under the direct supervision of a pharmacist to locate, prepare, package, and document medications while maintaining strict compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards. This position plays a key role in coordinating inventory, supporting chronic and debilitating illness therapies, and ensuring patients receive accurately dispensed prescriptions.

Responsibilities
  • Work with pharmacists to accurately prepare prescription orders in a timely manner.
  • Make outbound calls to prescribers offices and handle inbound calls as needed, with approximately 90% of the workload focused on outbound calls and 10% on inbound calls.
  • Perform accurate and efficient data entry for prescription orders and related documentation.
  • Interact with various departments to ensure prescriptions are dispensed accurately and on time.
  • Work under the direct supervision of a pharmacist to support daily pharmacy operations.
  • Locate the correct medication and strength to complete the picking of orders.
  • Prepare, count, label, and package pharmaceuticals for pharmacist review and approval.
  • Purchase, receive, and coordinate pharmacy inventory to support uninterrupted operations.
  • Maintain and update inventory recap reports to ensure accurate tracking of medications.
  • Retrieve discontinued or expired medications from stock, discard or return them as appropriate, and complete all corresponding documentation.
  • Maintain accurate and complete prescription logs in accordance with policy and regulatory requirements.
  • Calibrate pharmacy equipment accurately and document all calibration activities according to policy.
  • Assist with maintaining pharmacy temperature logs, cleaning logs, and related documentation to support quality and safety standards.
  • Comply with all safety, quality assurance, accreditation, legal, state, and federal regulatory requirements.
  • Adhere to all organizational policies, procedures, and operational standards.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support overall pharmacy operations.
Essential Skills
  • At least 2 years of experience as a pharmacy technician.
  • At least 2 years of hospital or specialty pharmacy experience.
  • Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT or equivalent) required.
  • Active pharmacy technician license, as applicable by state regulations.
  • Strong data entry skills with high accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Experience in order entry and fulfillment for prescription medications.
  • Familiarity with drugs commonly used to treat chronic and debilitating illnesses.
  • Experience working in a health care or pharmacy setting.
  • Customer service skills, including professional phone etiquette for outbound and inbound calls.
  • Ability to comply with safety, quality assurance, accreditation, legal, state, and federal regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to work under the direct supervision of a pharmacist and follow established procedures.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage inventory, logs, and documentation.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in prior authorization processes is beneficial.
  • Experience coordinating with multiple departments in a pharmacy or healthcare environment.
  • Comfort working in a high-volume call environment with a focus on outbound calls.
  • Ability to maintain accurate logs and documentation for prescriptions, inventory, equipment calibration, and environmental conditions.
  • Residence within the greater Houston area.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote setting while maintaining productivity and accuracy.
Work Environment

This is a fully remote, in-home position. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., with no overtime required. Work is primarily computer-based and phone-based, involving a high volume of outbound calls and data entry. The role requires a quiet, professional home workspace with reliable internet access to support secure handling of prescription information and effective communication with prescribers and internal departments. The work environment emphasizes compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards while supporting a consistent weekday schedule.

This is a Contract position based out of Houston, TX.

Pay And Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $20.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
