Job summary

Tampa General Hospital is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to support pharmacists in preparing and distributing medications, maintaining inventories, and keeping records accurate in a hospital setting. Under supervision, you will assist with IV admixtures, unit-dose packaging, restocking and delivering medications, and ensuring proper storage and documentation.

• CPhT Pharmacy Technician Certification required.
• Two years of hospital/health system experience required.
• One year prior pharmacy technician experience required.

Responsibilities

• Accurately prepares and distributes all doses of medication, including parenteral doses, subject to pharmacist verification.
• Expedites delivery of medications and related products to patient care areas and ensures proper storage.
• Maintains drug inventories within the department and defined care areas, including restocking and extemporaneous compounding.
• Accurately maintains required records, logs, and other documents related to medications and deliveries.

Job description

Pharmacy technicians assist pharmacists in preparing and distributing drugs, maintaining the drug inventory and maintenance of records. Pharmacy technicians work only under the supervision of a registered pharmacist. They do not perform duties that can legally be performed only by a registered pharmacist.

Essential Functions

• Accurately prepares & distributes all doses of medication (subject to verification of their complete and accurate preparation by a pharmacist prior to distribution), including parenteral doses (i.e., IV admixtures, chemotherapy, parenteral nutrition, etc)
• Expediently delivers medications and related products & supplies to defined patient care areas/ancillary areas according to the established schedules and assures their appropriate storage (e.g., refrigerator, etc)
• Actively assists in maintaining drug inventories both within the Department and at defined patient care areas (including code cart restocking, restocking of automated dispensing cabinets, checking for outdated inventory, packaging/repackaging & extemporaneous compounding, etc)
• Accurately maintains required records, logs & other documents (e.g., medication charges/credits, delivery & re-stock records)
