  • Review product expiration dates and stock appropriately.
  • Assist with stocking received medications and manage inventory records.
  • Handle controlled medications with accuracy and compliance.

Job Description

The Pharmacy Technician 1, under direct supervision of a registered pharmacist, assists with compounds and dispensing medical prescriptions and may be expected to perform some clerical duties relating to the department. The position is expected to receive and store incoming supplies, verify stock and enter data into the computer to maintain inventory records, and is expected to meet state certifications. The position requires familiarity with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within Pharmacy and relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.

  1. Assisting Pharmacist: This will have been satisfactorily performed when...
    1. Medications are accurately filled and distributed to the nursing units in a timely and accurate fashion as evidenced by lack of complaints or errors.
    2. Unit-dose medications are correctly prepared and labeled for distribution to the nursing units as evidenced by documentation in the unit-dose logbook.
    3. Compounded medications are correctly prepared and labeled for distribution to the nursing units as evidenced by documentation in the compounding logbook.
    4. Product expiration dates are reviewed as evidenced by lack of expired medications in stock area.
    5. Medications are reviewed and ordered as evidenced by documentation in want book. Received medications are stocked in the designated area.
    6. Controlled medications are accurately dispensed/returned to Narcotic Vault 100% of the time as evidenced by reports.
  2. Other Duties as Assigned: This will have been satisfactorily performed when...
    1. Basic cash register operations are performed in outpatient pharmacy as evidenced by end day report. Account payments are entered in the system correctly to ensure that accounts receivable is accurate and up to date. Funds are collected properly, and deposit is in agreement with the daily sales report 100% of the time.
    2. Assistance is provided on projects as needed.
    3. Other duties as assigned are completed.
Qualifications

Education: High School diploma

Skills: Ability to effectively follow directions, analyze problems and interpret analytical data. Strong communication skills with an emphasis on customer service skills. Attention to detail to provide high quality care and accurate medication preparation.

Licensure: Louisiana/Mississippi Board of Pharmacy Technician Certificate

Training: Per Pharmacy Certification requirements
