Job summary

SWLA Center for Health Services seeks a Pharmacy Technician to assist the pharmacist in preparing and distributing medications, maintain the drug inventory, and keep patient and pharmacy records in compliance with federal, state, and local laws and center policies. The technician works under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist to ensure accuracy and quality in daily operations.

Under supervision, the technician will translate prescription information, enter data into pharmacy software,

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Completed Pharmacy Technician Training Program.
  • Passed Pharmacy Technician Certification National Exam.
  • Licensed to practice by Louisiana Board of Pharmacy and complete required continuing education.
  • Ability to work quickly, accurately, and multi-task in a pharmacy setting.
  • Strong communication and professional presentation.

Responsibilities

  • Translate prescription information from providers’ orders.
  • Enter prescription data into pharmacy software with accuracy.
  • Inform pharmacist of any contraindications or refunds.
  • Monitor third party rejections or cost-related issues.
  • Perform prescriptions filling functions per Louisiana Board of Pharmacy rules.
  • Observe inventory and create/modify wholesale purchase orders.
  • Monitor inventory for expirations or overstock; manage returns.
  • Handle register functions as needed.
  • Communicate with patients regarding prescriptions requests.
  • Act as liaison between providers and patients.
  • Coordinate with third parties on prescriptions concerns.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly pharmacy department.
  • Take on additional duties to ensure quality health services at the center.

JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: Pharmacy Technician

DEPARTMENT: Pharmacy

SUPERVISED BY: Pharmacy Director

SUMMARY

Pharmacy Technician will assist the pharmacist in the preparation and distribution of medications, maintaining the drug inventory, and maintaining patient and pharmacy records in a manner consistent with all federal, state, and local laws and regulations, as well as pharmacy policies and procedures. Pharmacy technician activities are performed under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist.

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
  1. High school graduate or GED certificate
  2. Successful completion of Pharmacy Technician Training Program.
  3. Successful completion of Pharmacy Technician Certification National Exam.
  4. Must be Louisiana Board of Pharmacy licensed to practice and complete a minimum of one ACPE unit approved ACPR or CPE, or ten (10)hours of continuing education each year as a prerequisite for annual renewal of license.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Translate prescription information from providers’ orders.
  2. Enter prescription data into pharmacy software with accuracy.
  3. Inform pharmacist on duty of any contradictions, therapeutic duplications or other issues arising from drug utilization reviews.
  4. Monitor third party rejections or other communication signaling cost prohibition or underpayment
  5. Perform prescriptions filling functions as detailed in the Louisiana Board of Pharmacy laws and Regulations Reference manual and revised in bulletins.
  6. Observe inventory and create/modify wholesaler purchase orders online.
  7. Monitor pharmacy inventory for expirations or overstock.
  8. Prepare wholesaler returns.
  9. Perform register functions as necessary.
  10. Communicate with patients regarding prescriptions requests.
  11. Act as a liaison between providers and patients.
  12. Communicate with third parties on behalf of patients with prescriptions concerns.
  13. Assist in maintaining a clean and orderly pharmacy department
  14. Assume additional duties when necessary to ensure quality health services are being rendered by the center and all other duties as assigned.
