At CVS Health, we are focused on transforming health care for our customers and making our company a great place to work. We help people navigate the health care system – and their personal health care – by improving access, lowering costs, and being a trusted partner for every meaningful moment of health. Within our Retail locations, we bring this promise to life with heart every day, and our Pharmacy Technicians (Technicians) play a critical role in supporting our pharmacy teams to consistently deliver on our brand promise.

As a Technician, you will support the pharmacy team in delivering operational and service excellence within your store. Technicians are often the first point of contact to assist our patients and customers, providing an exceptional experience. They help ensure pharmacy operations run smoothly, prescriptions are filled promptly, safely, and accurately, and that patients receive caring service exceeding expectations.

Technicians operate as part of the pharmacy team by applying Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), best practices, and effective communication. Throughout their shifts, they demonstrate genuine care and contribute to a safe, inclusive culture where all feel valued and empowered.

Once in role, Technicians are required to complete rigorous training and meet all registration, licensing, and certification requirements per State’s Board of Pharmacy guidelines. Until then, duties may be restricted by the Pharmacy Manager.

A Technician's responsibilities include:

  1. Contributing to safe and effective pharmacy operations, including following SOPs and pharmacy workflow procedures for safe and accurate prescription fulfillment.
  2. Creating positive patient experiences through empathy and genuine care, offering immunizations and other services, and solving or escalating patient issues.
  3. Completing basic inventory activities as permitted by law and directed by pharmacy leadership.
  4. Supporting a high-performing team, embracing growth, and seeking opportunities to expand clinical and technical knowledge.
  5. Remaining flexible for scheduling and business needs, including traveling to other stores as required.
  6. Understanding and complying with all relevant laws, regulations, standards, and policies to ensure safety, compliance, and privacy.
  7. Providing additional patient health services, such as immunizations and point-of-care testing, where legally permissible and supported by training.

Where permissible, supporting immunizations involves:

  1. Completing additional licensure and training to obtain Technician Immunizer status.
  2. Educating patients about vaccines and referring them to Pharmacists for vaccination questions.
  3. Monitoring for adverse reactions and reporting events per public health requirements.
  4. Reviewing patient information, tracking, and managing vaccine supplies.
