Job summary

Backus Hospital Pharmacy Department seeks a Pharmacy Technician to support pharmacists in medication preparation and distribution within the hospital. Duties include unit dose dispensing, patient profile maintenance, and bar-code verification across inpatient and outpatient settings.

Required is a High School Diploma or equivalent; CT registration within 30 days of hire; a pharmacy tech certification is preferred.

Qualifications

• Pharmacy Technician experience preferred (1 year).
• Must be a registered Pharmacy Technician with CT within 30 days.
• Pharmacy Technician certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist in preparation and distribution of medications hospital-wide.
• Maintain patient profiles and unit dose fill lists in the system.
• Restock crash cart medications and document actions.
• Fill emergency and stat boxes with proper documentation.
• Ensure medications are bar-code scanned and compatible with the pharmacy system.
• Prepackage tablets, capsules for in-patient and out-patient dispensing.

Shift Detail: Primarily day shift with coverage on second and third shift as needed. Every other weekend and rotating holidays.

The Pharmacy Department at Backus consists of Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacists who work together in a collaborative team environment meeting the needs of our patients.

Pharmacy Technicians assist Pharmacists in the preparation, dispensing and distribution of sterile and non-sterile medication throughout the hospital. Duties Include:

• Assists in the preparation and distribution of medications throughout the hospital which includes in-patient unit dose dispensing and out-patient dispensing.
• Performs computer activities to maintain patient profiles, entry of charges and credits and generation of unit dose fill lists.
• Restocks crash cart medications, including documentation and follow through.
• Fills emergency boxes and stat boxes, including documentation, expiration date checking and follow through.
• Insures all medications are packaged with a bar code compatible with existing Pharmacy bar code technology
• Prepackages tablets, capsules and other dosage forms for in-patient and out-patient dispensing.

Qualifications

Education

High School Diploma required or equivalent.

Experience

One year experience as a pharmacy technician is preferred.

License And Certification

• Must be A Registered Pharmacy Technician with the CT Department of Consumer protection within 30 days of hire.
• Pharmacy Technician certification strongly preferred
