Job summary

KC CARE is seeking a Pharmacy Technician in Kansas City, MO to process new and refill prescription orders and support the 340B program implementation under pharmacist supervision.

You will assist patients at checkout, handle payments, and help identify resources to obtain cost-effective medications, while maintaining a clean and compliant pharmacy environment.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Six months community/retail experience with point-of-sale and cash handling.
  • State Certificate of Pharmacy Technician required.
  • Pharmacy Technician Board Certification (PTCB or NHA) required.
  • CPR/BLS certification required.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately process new medication orders using pharmacy software with data entry, insurance adjudication and labeling under pharmacist supervision.
  • Process refill requests received by phone, fax, email, and in-person.
  • Obtain physician/provider authorization for refills and medication changes as needed.
  • Assist with patient assistance program applications and inventories by passing prospective cases to pharmacy managers.
  • Assist patients at prescription check-out window—dispense medication, collect payment, and answer questions.
  • Process cash and credit payments for prescription services.
  • Answer phones promptly and provide solutions to patient concerns to ensure a great customer experience.
  • Respond to patient voicemails and emails within 24–48 hours.
  • Request pharmacist assistance for counseling and other tasks requiring clinical consultation.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized pharmacy space.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Pharmacy Technician processes new and refill prescription orders, provides support to the pharmacy staff for 340Bimplementation and processing, processes patient pharmaceutical needs and passes cases to pharmacy managers for program qualification, and helps to identify resources for patients to obtain cost effective medications.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Process refill requests received by phone, fax, email, and in-person.
  • Obtain Physician or Provider authorization for refill and medication changes as needed.
  • Assist with patient assistance program applications and patient assistance medication inventories by passing prospective cases to pharmacy managers.
  • Assist patients at prescription check-out window—dispense medication, collect payment, and answer questions.
  • Process cash and credit payments for prescription services.
  • Answer phones promptly and provide solutions to patient concerns to ensure an overall great customer experience.
  • Assist in checking and responding to patient voicemails within 24 to 48 hours.
  • Check and respond to emails within 48 hours.
  • Request pharmacist assistance for counseling and other tasks requiring clinical consultation.
  • Complete any other task and duties as designated by pharmacy supervisor and pharmacists on duty.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized pharmacy and ensure a clean workspace prior to rotation to the next workflow position.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Six months community/retail experience with point-of-sale and cash handling.
  • State Certificate of Pharmacy Technician.
  • Pharmacy Technician Board Certification (PTCB or NHA).
  • CPR/BLS certified.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS
  • Two years pharmacy technician experience.
  • Experience in a Public Health, Community Health, Hospital, or Retail setting pharmacy.
  • Bilingual strongly preferred (Spanish).

Working Conditions

General working conditions are in a healthcare facility. As such, there is a potential exposure to virus, disease, and infection from patients while performing the duties of this job. May experience traumatic situations including psychiatric traumatized and deceased patients. Travel may be expected to community meetings, client homes, or other agencies.

Physical Demands

While performing duties of this job, employees are regularly required to set, walk, and stand; talk and hear; both in person and by telephone; use hands repetitively to finger, handle, feel, or operate standard office or clinical equipment; reach with hands and arms; and occasionally lift up to 20 pounds.
