Job summary

Fort Defiance Indian Hospital Board, Inc. in Fort Defiance, AZ is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to assist pharmacists with filling medication orders, maintaining stock, and supporting pharmacy operations using ScriptPro and RPMS.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Assists pharmacist in filling medication orders utilizing pharmacy robotics and hand count.
• Maintains appropriate levels of approved pre-packed medications for frequently prescribed medications and reconstitutes powders for filling.
• Compounds sterile admixtures per USP 797/800 standards under supervision.
• Compounds extemporaneous medications under pharmacist direction.
• Checks in patients at pharmacy counter and handles refill denials with pharmacist.
• Provides patient education as appropriate.
• Checks stock to ensure proper levels, rotates stock, stores medications properly, and discards outdated drugs.
• Fills automated dispensing cabinet orders and maintains pharmacy filling robotics.
• Performs clerical work to keep accurate records and answers phones; maintains sanitary pharmacy areas.
• Answers questions from patient profiles and refers to pharmacist when professional judgment is needed.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Essential Duties, Functions And Responsibilities

• Assists pharmacist in filling medication orders utilizing pharmacy robotics and hand count (i.e. ScriptPro Central); ensures appropriate medication is filled and labeling requirements are met.
• Maintains appropriate levels of approved pre-packed medications for frequently prescribed medications and quantities. Reconstitutes per manufacturer instructions powder oral medications for filling.
• Compounds sterile admixtures when directed by a pharmacist, using appropriate sterile techniques in accordance with United States Pharmacopeia (USP) 797 and 800 standards and FDIHB infection control policy, and showing math/procedures when checked by a pharmacist.
• Compounds extemporaneous medications under the direction and supervision of a pharmacist per compounding recipes on file in pharmacy or as approved.
• Checks in patients at pharmacy counter and directs all problems/refill denials to a pharmacist. Takes refill requests in person, at pharmacy window, and through pharmacy refill phone line.Returns medication to stock after seven (7) days on shelf, making notation in each patient’s chart via Resource Patient Management System (RPMS) and Electronic Health Record (EHR).
• Provides patient education as appropriate and refers patients to pharmacist as necessary.
• Checks pharmacy stock to ensure that proper levels are maintained, stock is rotated and medications are stored properly; checks and discards outdated drugs; and assists with physical inventory of all medication.
• Fills automated dispensing cabinet medication orders after verification by pharmacist. Fills and maintains pharmacy filling robotics.
• Performs related clerical work to keep accurate records, answers phones; cleans and maintains work areas to maintain sanitary conditions in the pharmacy.
• Answers technical and patient demographic questions from information contained in the patient profile/record; refers questions requiring professional judgment to pharmacist.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Experience

Six (6) months of work experience in a pharmacy.

Education

High School Diploma or Equivalency (HSE).

Mandatory Minimum Qualifications

• Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) Certificate.
• Must obtain state licensure (AZ or NM) within a month of date of hire.
