Job summary

McLaren Health Care in Flint, MI is seeking a Pharmacy Technician for dayshift hours (6:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.). You will compound and dispense medications under supervision, handle IV admixtures, and use Omnicell for inventory management.

Required: Michigan-licensed Pharmacy Technician, high school diploma, 6 months of related experience or training, and ability to operate standard office equipment. Full-time, weekends as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Licensed Pharmacy Technician in the State of Michigan is required.
• 6 months of experience or completion of a pharmacy technician training program, or enrollment in an accredited school of pharmacy.
• Age-specific training for neonate to geriatric patients is required.
• Ability to operate standard office equipment (computer terminal).

Responsibilities

• Weighs, measures, and mixes ingredients to compound medications and prepares units for dispensing.
• Replenishes medications in crash carts, EMT boxes, and floor stock.
• Fills bottles, capsules, and other forms with medications per prescriptions.
• Prepackages bulk medications into unit-dose packages.
• Distributes prescriptions to nursing stations and enters physician orders into the pharmacy system.
• Operates automated dispensing technology (Omnicell) for inventory and storage.
• Charges medications to patient accounts according to procedures.
• Organizes outdated or excess meds for return to manufacturers.

Job Title: Pharmacy Technician

Scheduled Biweekly Hours: 80

Rate of Pay: $19.20 to $23.82 based on experience

Position Summary

Under the direct supervision of the Director of Pharmaceutical Services or a Registered Pharmacist - and according to the standard procedures - compounds and dispenses medications and pharmaceutical supplies upon receiving prescriptions from physicians or other qualified prescribes, dispenses additives for IV and irrigation solutions, mixes IV additive solutions as required using aseptic technique, with the laminar flow hood, types labels, prepares and files charge slips, and performs other related duties.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist, weighs measures and mixes ingredients compounds and prepares medications, emulsions, liquids, powders, and ointments using such equipment as graduates, balance, mortars, pestles and funnels.
• Replenishes medications in emergency crash carts, EMT boxes, or floor stock atears accurately.
• Accurately fills bottles, capsules, or other package forms with measured amounts of medication according to the prescription.
• Prepackages bulk medications in unit dose packages accurately within specified time periods.
• Makes round delivering prescriptions to the nursing stations.
• Files physician’s orders.
• Data entry of physicians orders and patient information into pharmacy computer system.
• Utilizes and operates automated dispensing technology (Omnicell) to facilitate inventory management and medication storage.
• Charges appropriate patient and/or patient care area for medications and supplies as outlined by standard departmental procedures.
• Organizes outdated or overstocked medications to ship back to manufacturers for credit.
• Regularly dispenses additives for IV and irrigating solutions. Mixes IV additive solutions and chemotherapy as required using aseptic technique with the laminar flow hood.
• Prepares intravenous ad mixtures or other sterile products (including chemotherapy and parenteral nutrition) accurately and according to established standards.
• Cleans the laminar flow hood and working area.
• Prepares reports on IV activity as requested on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis, as requested.

Required Qualifications

• Possess high school diploma or equivalent.
• Licensed to practice as a Pharmacy Technician in the State of Michigan.
• Possess 6 months of job-related experience or completion of a pharmacy technician-training program or currently enrolled in an accredited school of pharmacy.
• Trained and educated in age-specific categories being served: neonate, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric.
• Ability to operate office related equipment (computer terminal).
